Wordless Wednesday: Do ferrets actually sleep like that?

Sleeping Ferrets.png

Ok so this isn’t exactly Wordless. Can you believe there are actually four ferrets in this hammock? Where’s the fourth? Why he is buried under his brothers and sister. They seem to enjoy sleeping in big furry piles. I always get a kick out of some of the positions I find them sleeping. It looks uncomfortable, but it doesn’t seem to bother them. Ferrets have flexible spines, just like a cat.

I took this picture yesterday with my Nikon D80. The one who has his paws tucked up close to his body and has his nose pointing to the floor is my ferret, Ganesh. Isn’t he sweet? The albino is Indra, and Kali is on the far left. The fourth ferret, Hanuman who happens to be my biggest at almost five pounds is buried under his brothers and sister.

My ferrets roam upstairs when I’m available when I’m not I keep them in their home. I’m not comfortable letting them have free way when I’m away from the home. They get into too much, lol. I did purchase them a Midwest Ferret Nation. It’s three stories, this picture was taken on the first level. It’s a lot taller than I. I’m 5′.

I really should create a ferrets sleeping series. :-) More pictures can be found at their own private home, ferrets haven.

Photography: Stella d’Oro Daylily; Early morning capture

Yellow Flower.jpg

This morning I was outside snapping photos. I took this shot of this beautiful Stella d’Oro Daylily. I have many of them in my yard. I love being outdoors, and you can usually find my daughter and me out there playing and enjoying nature. I found lots of insects hanging around these flowers.

Last evening Aiyana and I spent a few hours outside watching the fireflies and checking out the bats dashing through the sky. It was a lot of fun. That’s how we usually end our time outdoors. It’s a time to look at our beautiful world one last time before we go inside for the evening.

This past fall I wrote about the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G Micro Nikkor Lens I had been drooling over, I held off purchasing it at that time and decided to wait until Spring 2008, well Spring is almost over I’ve decided that this will be a nice little gift for myself this summer although I can afford to purchase it now. I’m going to wait until I land another writing gig before I spend the cash.

Recently, I reconnected with a buddy of mine who makes his living snapping photos. I think he’s the best photographer I’ve met. When I met him about twelve years ago I remember being blown away by his work. His work has been featured all over the world. When he asked me what was up with my picture taking I had to be honest and tell him I really hadn’t been active as I used to be. He already knew that since he reads most of my blogs. It was obvious I was taking photos since none were being posted. It was one of those things that just slipped by of course, he gave me a lecture about that so here I am taking photos again.

Hey buddy, I know you read my blog fairly often. Here’s proof that I’m getting my butt in gear and taking pictures again. It’s something I’ve truly missed. I guess this means I’ll have to update my digital photography website, right? No, worries I will. SO back off! ;-)

Merry Christmas From Vegan Momma!

Family Picture

Isn’t my nephew cute? This picture was taken yesterday if you closely look you’ll see Aiyana’s red pants making an appearance, under my nephew, as he was passed from his great grandfather to his grandfather (my father.) It was wonderful taking a tiny break and spending time with my family.

My day would have been complete if I knew C was ok he’s still away on the ship, and I haven’t heard from him in about four days. The longest I’ve gone without contact has been about three days. I do know they are busy and were trying to wrap everything up so they could be home for the Christmas holiday so I’m hoping all is good.
Today I’m hanging with Aiyana, and hopefully I’ll be able to take a shot of more than her legs.

Whatever holiday you celebrate I’m hoping it is a joyous occasion.

Blessings,

Opal & Aiyana

What’s One Of Your Favorite Photos?

Posted on December 11th, 2007 in My little Angel, Photography by Vegan Momma

My daughter and Me

My daughter and me

Besides, nature my favorite photos are the ones of my daughter and myself.  The picture above is one of my favorite pictures of my daughter and myself.  Yep, even though the squint factor was high I still love this picture. The photos of us together are rare, and I bet I don’t have more than thirty of them. Yes, I know that is bad. Whenever I hand my camera to someone else, I’m never sure what I’ll see when I look at the picture.

The majority of the time the picture really stinks. Our image is blurred. It makes me wonder what the heck were they thinking of when they decided to take the picture. I do have a remote for my Nikon D80 and a tripod. I’ll be pulling that out during this holiday season. I plan to make our greeting cards.

I actually think I posted this photo before. It was taken in 2006. Our hair is a lot longer now and I’m currently wearing my hair in loc’s aka dreadlock’s. This is one of my favorite photos of my daughter and myself besides the fact that I don’t have too many of us together another reason I like it is because it’s actually in focus.

My hair has been growing like crazy and is past my shoulders now. I attribute that to my healthy lifestyle (food, exercise, and fairly stress free.) As you can see in this picture Aiyana likes her hair wild and free. Perhaps she takes after her mommy? She turned four, in May, and became fascinated with braids. Usually I’ll braid her extremely long hair and add pretty barrettes or ribbons to the ends. She loves that immensely.

The necklace, not a good picture, is one that I created. It also happens to be my favorite necklace. I don’t wear too much jewelry.

At times it’s hard to believe that I’ve been on this planet for thirty seven years but it’s true. I’m enjoying life and living life to it’s fullest. Tomorrow is not promised to me so I’m making the most of every single day. I’m teaching my daughter to do the same. The best way I can teach her is to lead by example.

Question: What’s one of your favorite photos. If you have it available post on your blog and let me know.

I’m turning this into a tag…

I tag

  1. Bush Mackel
  2. Pete of my GPS Camera Phone
  3. dara
  4. Chinnee
  5. Sassy

Of course the picture doesn’t have to be of a person. It can be anything that you like
