Charleston meets Daft Punk; featuring Al Minns and Leon James

I love dancing and its something I do daily. I stumbled upon this earlier today. It’s a sweet mashup of the Charleston and modern music. It makes me wonder what my daughter will mashup when she gets older? Ne-Yo, Timberlake. I’ a huge Daft Punk fan so naturally I was loving seeing this classic set to one of my favorite groups.

It’s amazing the things you can do with video editing software. I mainly use Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, both Apple products, and I’ve made some fairly impressive videos. Most of them revolve around my daughter but I’ve also created short movies and a few documentaries.

The dance they are doing is the Charleston. The Charleston dance was named after the city Charleston South Carolina. I believe this particular video was filmed in the 1950’s at the Savoy Ballroom which is located in Harlem New York City.

The video below is one of my favorite mash ups of these two dancers.

For those unfamiliar with the two dancers they are Al Minns and Leon James. I wasn’t even born when they were in the spotlight but I still enjoy watching videos featuring both of these talented dancers.

First day jitters

The first day of school has come and gone without any problems. The night before Aiyana told me that she was nervous about school. I told her this was fine and perfectly normal to feel this way.

Going to school is a huge step. I also told her about the times I’ve been nervous. Listening to me relay the times I’ve experienced nervousness and how I went about dealing with it made her feel very relieved. Naturally, all the parents accompanied their children into the classroom. The Teacher’s assistant had wisely set aside pictures at the children’s desk so they were occupied as soon as they got there. Twenty-four heads were bent over their pictures coloring their house to their preference.

When I picked up my daughter, she told me she missed me but wanted to go back to school the next day. She also talked about some of the children she had met in school. My daughter is very social I knew she would not have a problem meeting and interacting with other children once the nervousness wore off.

I’ve been preparing her for school for months. It’s something we discussed daily I wanted her to be prepared when the big day approached. Although I missed my daughter while she is away, I’m able to accomplish so much during her absence and that is a wonderful thing.

Anyone else having children that are going to school for the first time? Or if you’ve already been there care to share your child’s first day experience? Leave a message in the comment section.

Gearing up for school

Posted on August 23rd, 2008 in My little Angel by Vegan Momma

With school staring Monday my daughter is starting to get excited. Ok, who am I fooling she has been excited for quite some time. It will be a huge change for both of us, but I know she’ll do well. She’s five years old, already knows how to read and write and knows simple addition and subtraction. We spend a lot of time doing “fun learning” at home.

This past month we’ve spent most of our time together which did not leave my time open for a lot of extracurricular activities such as personal blogging. With her going to school, I’m slowly getting into the routine of blog writing again.

It’s a beautiful day in Maryland and my daughter has asked whether I will cook outside. I love cookouts as much as her so I’m more than happy to accommodate her. Over the next few days (most likely weeks) I’ll be making the blog rounds and catching up with my blog pals to see what is going on at their virtual homes.

I’m hoping everyone has been doing well.

Where has the time gone?

The past few weeks I’ve been noticeably silent on my personal blogs, although I’ve been writing elsewhere I decided to lay off posting on my personal websites.

My daughter will be going to school on August 25th, and she is extremely excited. This month I’ve been spending most of my time with her, so I guess you can say that I’ve been having a “mini-vacation.” We’ve gone to a lot of different places here in Maryland such as kiddie carnivals, reading groups for children, and her favorite place to play kid games Chuck E. Cheese.

I’m slowly getting back into writing for my personal websites I truly have missed it.

What are we doing today? We’re having a cookout. I’m making veggie burgers, hummus, and a garden salad that naturally came out of my garden. That is one of the perks to having a garden.

What’s on your schedule today?

Spending time with family and that all important “me time”

Posted on July 12th, 2008 in Family, My little Angel by Vegan Momma

Diablo-II-Amazon.jpgYes, we all need “me time,” it’s important. These days you’ll find me doing less commenting on other blogs (although I still read the same blogs) and more time doing things for myself. I still make an effort to comment on those who’ve stop by and comment on my blogs. I just don’t try to do it all in the same day.

A few months ago, when I took a break from blogging I knew one thing that needed to change was the amount of commenting I was doing on other blogs. That was becoming a job I read 100’s of blogs websites throughout the day. Partially do to freelance writing but yes I know a lot of bloggers also, trying to commenting as I used to is definitely no an option.

Did I make the right decision? I think I did, the time I was using to comment gives me time to do other things for example I’m actually gaming again for anyone that has read my website for a while you’ll know that I love gaming, I don’t always have the time to play. About three months ago I created a gaming website where I write under a pseudonym. It’s another way I relax and it keeps writing and playing games. Besides, exercise, spending time with my daughter, reading, personal writing, and the many other things I do to relax. I would add gaming to that pile and the important thing it’s a “me time” activity.

Spending time with the family wasn’t really an issue unless I had a major shipment to send with my business, article to write, or paper or test to study for. For the most part I was able to work around my daughter, Aiyana’s, schedule. However, I was selling myself short when it came to spending time on myself.

What’s on the menu today? I’m taking my daughter to Chuck E. Cheese. Gone are the days when I actively play the games with her. Yes, I’ve been demoted she just wants me to sit on the sidelines and “watch”. Sighs, she’s only five years old! I’m planning on bringing Stephen Kings, Cell: A Novel

What about the me time? Later today I’ll be working out at Bally’s. Yes, exercise is part of my daily routine. I’ll try to post todays workout sometime this weekend. Much later today I’m going to play Diablo II. Yes, I know the game is old but I happen to like it, also Blizzard is making Diablo III although I highly doubt we’ll see it before 2010. Well, that’s my me time for the day.

Question: What’s on your weekend menu? Me time, spending time with family/friends, or both? Are you making time for yourself? It’s important you know.
