One Cool Gift & Freelance Writing Update

Posted on December 26th, 2007 in Blog Monetization, Blogging Tips, Entrepreneur by Vegan Momma

One of the gifts I distributed this year went over well. I thought it was simple, but my father liked it a lot! He had me test it shortly after I gave him this gift, a personalized domain name. I never thought something that simple would cause so much happiness. He likes it a lot.

Since I was in the buying mood, I bought another domain. I bought that simply for freelance writing. Checking out Chris Blogging, the freelance writer, and Theda K, another freelance writer. I recently discovered their websites and I’ve added them to my great list of links and RSS feed. Their content is excellent and I would recommend my readers stop by and see what they have to say.

Anyway after viewing their virtual homes I thought it might be a smart idea to have a website that focused solely on writing.  I’m addicted to writing after all. It will be where I can market my work. When I think about it, I have done writing before the only difference was I did it in the corporate setting. It was mainly writing training manuals, web content, and daily, weekly, and monthly reports. At the time, I didn’t think of it as writing. I just thought of it as my job.

The past few weeks I’ve done very well with freelance writing but that is because I’ve worked hard at making it happen. The work didn’t just fall in my lap. My focus is connected to nutrition and fitness the jobs that I’m interested in are focused on that also. At Healing Yourself Naturally I’m currently writing a serious about constipation what was originally going to be one article is going to turn into something more initially I had planned on writing this article in the summer time.

Standing Out Above The Crowd

Posted on December 1st, 2007 in Entrepreneur, Personal by Vegan Momma

Have you ever thought about that? What makes you stand out from others that are similar to you? It’s something I think about with my business, websites, and pretty much every aspect of my life. I dare to be different. I try to implement the same principle into something as simple as a double sided business card.

You’ll find the typical information on my business card my website, phone number, mailing address; however, once you flip it over you’ll get a personal information that fits 3.5” x 2” card that makes me stand out from others within my niche. I use that tiny bit of space to my advantage and effectively sell my services.

I consider myself an authority on aromatherapy and natural beauty products not because I say so but through the certifications I’ve acquired, the customer satisfaction, and the accounts I’ve received. I’m always reading information about the topic. It’s one of my passions.

One of the main places I sell my services is in the gym. Think about it fitness, health, beauty, etc., My business website focuses on natural skin care and the majority of my personal websites focus on alternative healing & nutrition. I’m a walking advertisement. I’ve noticed, in the gym, If you are in great shape, in good health, and appear to be approachable people will naturally come up to you and ask what you are doing so they can achieve those same goals.

I would like to think I’m approachable so I am approached often when I’m in the gym. Depending on the questions asked will determine what type of card I’ll give them. If they are commenting on my complexion and how clear it is they will be handed a business card along with a business card from my personal websites that focus on natural beauty.

If they are commenting about my energy level/health I’ll give them a business card that focuses on my Health & Wellness websites. That card has my cooking and alternative healing website on one card.   I actively promote my blogs also.

I now make it a practice to always carry business cards with me simply because I don’t know when I’ll need them. It’s better to have than not need than to need and not have, right?

If you are like myself and like the hands on approach check out Great FX with a variety of styles to choose from, raised, gloss, double sided, folded you can make your own business cards and dare to be different.

Columbus Day: I Don’t Remember Holidays Like I Use To

Snowy Sky

Snowy Sky

I had to laugh this morning. Alright so I’m always laughing or at least smiling but this morning my smile was broader than normal. You see I was getting my customers orders ready for shipment. I went onto my software Endicia for Mac. If you do a lot of mailing I would highly recommend this at home post office. It’s a great program. I did a review about it on Endicia for Mac: I’m checking out Endicia.com and I’ll be doing another review as a user within the next dew weeks. It will be thorough with plenty of screenshots.

Anyway I weighed my packages and was getting ready to print the labels when Endicia gives me a message “Are you sure you want to mail your packages on Columbus Day?” You see the USPS does not deliver on this day although UPS and Fed Ex do. I know because I’m receiving a UPS package today. It’s another photography book.

When I worked out of the home I remember that I looked forward to my holidays since it meant that I was able to spend more time with my daughter however holidays, for that reason, don’t carry the same significance that they used to. Guess what? There are numerous holidays when I’m working. I’m working today. I work weekends, and on many occasions I work well into the night but there is a difference. I’m working for myself and although I’m the toughest boss I’ve ever had I’m fair and I enjoy what I do.

Although I always enjoyed my job, when I worked out of the home, there were occasions that I did not care for the people I worked with. That makes all the difference.

Question: Do you forget holidays and if you work outside the home are you off of work today?

Planning For My Future And A Little Gift For Myself

Bumble Bee

Bumble Bee

What are my favorite insects? Bumble bees and ants are tied in first place. Spiders are a close second. Although you cannot tell from my shot this bumble bee is huge. I took about fifty shots of it yesterday. I’ve seen this one around a lot. It visits daily. It does not mind when I take the time to explain to my daughter the amount of work they do throughout the day.

Perhaps the bee thinks we don’t count since we aren’t bothering it? Regardless of why it has important things to do and it does not involve checking out the two of us. We watch as it collects its nectar, and pollen from the flowers (I tell my daughter the pollen coating its legs reminds me of the worlds smallest legwarmers) taking it’s time to gather as much as possible from the surrounding flowers before it flies off.

How much nectar can they carry? Up to 85% of their body weight with one trip. We chat about where it might live and how many bees might be in the hive. Did you know that honey bees will collect nectar up to 8 miles from their hive? Do you know what? Bee watching is a ritual we do every day while the bees are out and about. We actually miss them when they are gone.

My daughter has a healthy respect for all living things and she has come to love bees almost as much as myself because she knows a lot about them. She appreciates them and yes she regularly thanks them for the contribution they make to our garden.

I’m hoping to have a few hives next year. I’ve been planning on having them for several years but after my daughter was born I decided to wait until she was older. I think she is at the age where she has a healthy respect and can fully appreciate seeing an increase in our bee population.

I’ve read numerous books about them over the years so I’m fairly knowledgeable about them. I can talk about them for hours if I can find someone to listen. As a child I would spend hours watching them. I always admired their hard work. Here is another cool bee fact…

One mouthful in three of the foods you eat directly or
indirectly depends on pollination by honey bees.

Do you want to know more? Read the full article Bee Benefits To Agriculture.

Naturally I love taking pictures of them but I’m always disappointed with my shots. Why? I’ve want to get a closer view. Today I purchased a Raynox 25o macro lens that will tide me over until I upgrade to the Nikon I’ve been writing about. Yes, I’ve already checked out the Nikon lens so I know I will get it. Although I could spend the money on the Nikon now and not miss the money. I’ll hold off and play around with the Raynox 250.

Bumble Bee

Bumble Bee getting ready to fly

Outside of my business related items I don’t spend too much money on myself. According to Cath Lawson’s post It’s Official - The Average Millionaire is An Aggressive Tightwad I’m right on track for where I want to be later in life, lol. It’s true I budget everything. The Millionaire Next Door by Paul Stanley did a great job of really emphasizing this point. The majority of the millionaires aren’t “partying like a rock star” they live below their means. I know I live well below mine although I don’t have to.

Although I do have money to purchase things like Halo 3, the Nikon 105mm right now. I won’t purchase it until I’ve made extra money to compensate for it. You see I think those things are “wants” not needs. I’m knowing my world is not gong to end if I don’t purchase them. I budget everything. Over the years, that mentality has saved me a lot of money.

My parents were always good at managing their finances. My brother
