A missed opportunity?
Yesterday I was contacted by an editor for one of the websites where I write. There is a big technology event coming up in July its being held in New York City. It’s a closed event, invitation only. The invites are being extended to those within the media.
The technology gadgets being showcased haven’t even been released yet. They will hit the stores this fall. You know I’m really hating out this opportunity. It’s a great chance to get a first hand look at products that won’t be released, mingle with the fabulous people behind the gadgets, and of course interact with others in media. I know I would have gotten some great stories for that website, and hopefully I would have been able to sell a few of them.
If I had attended this would have been the first time that I would have been separated from my daughter. I would have flown into New York City, spending the night at one of the downtown hotels. I also would have dragged my buddy D along for the adventure. There’s nothing romantic about our relationship. I do consider him a great friend. We get along very well, and I honestly cannot think of someone I would rather spend my time with (outside of my daughter) while in NYC. I don’t have a problem mingling with strangers, I actually enjoy doing that, it would have been nice to have someone to party with after the event was over.
Question: What are some events that you missed that you wished you could have attended?

OH Darn! I would have been like a kid in a candy store if I had the opportunity to go to that. That’s to bad you didn’t go.
The biggest event I missed out on would have been my first time. I was to damn drunk to remember. HA! HA! Go ahead. Have a laugh on me. :P err, not actually ON me but, …you know what I mean. :P

@MacBros - It hasn’t happened yet. It occurs next month but yeah I’m not too happy about it; however, I did get a free game in the mail from one of the technology websites that I write not only do I get to play the game I also will get paid for writing about it. How cool is that?
I think you purposely mention drinking so I can have something to tease you about.

well, two years ago i went to a video blogging conference in San Francisco…i’m sure it would have been great had i actually attended. i was sick as a dog (early stages of pregnancy).
but i would love to go to the TED Africa conference in Cape Town this year. sadly, i don’t think i will be able to attend :(
i’m sure the Blogging While Brown conference will be great also, but nope, won’t be attending. A 9-5 job and single parenting really limits the events i’m able to attend.

@dara@ecofriendlymomma.com - That had to be frustrating.
I remember I was prepping for figure competition. I found out I was pregnant naturally I wasn’t able to compete. Too bad they don’t have Figure competition for pregnant women I would have competed. I worked out through my entire pregnancy.
Single parenting definitely limits the amount of things you can do. I can definitely relate. Outside of the gym, I really haven’t done anything for “me” in years. That sort of got tossed out of the window after my daughter arrived on the scene.
Strange as it sounds but some of my acquaintances actually get defensive when I talk or write about some of the challenges I face as a single working mom. As if I’m not allowed to talk about the challenges, how crazy is that?
I never heard of Blogging while Brown but that looks fascinating. I just checked out the website. I love your new website. I’ll be looking at it when I have more time. :-)
