Silly screw-up leads to no email
I should have known something was up when my emails from a few of my accounts dwindled down to nothing. If I remember correctly this happened very early last week. Early this morning I decided to check to see what was up. I had sent off a few attachments and articles last week, followed up a few times with a few people but heard nothing. That was odd since that wasn’t like them. Although I’m not sure if any of my emails were received I know I wasn’t getting any of them. What caused this major screw up I had accidentally deleted my email account and had to set it up again however, when it came to setting up my “incoming mail” I used the wrong information.
Guess how many email is waiting for me this morning? Well, the “unread mail” is now at 450 and new mail is still pouring in. I can guarantee you it’s not spam. The only email that gets through is legitimate emails. Oh joy! I’m feeling the love already. I know a few people that I communicate with via email read my blogs if you sent something and didn’t hear back from me you know why. No, I wasn’t blowing you off. I’ll be getting back to you; hopefully, today definitely by tomorrow.
What I’ve learned is when I’m distracted, and I have been lately, at times I can lose focus and make mistakes.
Question: Has anyone else made any silly screw-ups with their computers?

Too many to list [the hard drive crash wasn't my fault] and I don’t think the email screw up was either, but no email really makes me feel cut off from humanity!
Cheers

Maddy,
It definitely does. Those two email addresses I use mainly for work although I was still getting other emails from my other address I noticed that I wasn’t getting them all.

Well, it could happen to anyone. It’s something that could happen easily if you are distracted and you have a lot going on lately. At least you caught it at 450 emails and not more! :) It’s all a big learning experience, this thing called life and the blogging that goes along with it. LOL.

Ouch, that’s a lot of e-mail. I was out of work on Friday due to weather and came in to a little over 700 this morning, so I can definitely sympathize!

HA! I’ve experienced this same thing sorta.
When I ran my server I was doing some maintenance and shut off the sendmail program and forgot to turn it back on. When I turned it back on it was about an hour later the last e-mail came in. LOL

It’s hard to do everything right
But a pain in the bum when you do screw things up. I am notorious for rushing and putting in wrong settings. It often results in a much slower systematic look at what I have done and how best not to do such a silly thing next time….. but it still happens again.

I messed up a hard drive on a server that was part of a metadisk and crashed the application residing on it at work one time. My co-workers said I lost all color, and I am fairly pale to begin with. I was sure I was going to get an Article 15 for that mess. But, with the help of my co-workers, I got it back up by close of business that day, and when I told the senior customer how I had screwed up the first attempt at restoring, he decided I was his go-to person whenever something was broke or just a bit funky.
And I screwed up a load script last week at work. Of course I didn’t realize it until TODAY-five days after the fact.

I’ve deleted an entire site from a host server only to realize that the backup was toast (luckily, I do redundant backups—paranoia helps in this biz)

 absolutely have had major screw up when first starting (not that long ago) I messed around with the picture resolution , and completely crashed the computer to a black screen.
Nothing would bring it back . I finally called the geek squad to fix it.

Too many to mention (or so many that I forget them all  )
I haven’t looked at my e-mail since Friday, but that’s sort of intentional. I doubt, though, that there’s more than 20 or 30 messages. I’ll check it tomorrow (errrr…, this morning) after I get up and before I go to work.

I have had unbacked up hard drives crash at least twice. The longer you use your computer, the better the odds these things will happen. Murphys Law
