On Writing: Where I’m writing on the WWW

Posted on February 15th, 2008 in Personal by Vegan Momma

I added the latest I’m writing at online it can be found in my sidebar. A little over a week ago I started writing for BLORGE.com. You’ll usually find me in the Mac section. Blorge is a technology news website. You can check out all my articles under my name Opal Tribble or you can check out my bio on their bio page.

Technology is something I love, especially Mac technology. I came from a strong background in Windows. Technical writing was part of my job details in the corporate setting and I’m hoping eventually, to be able to implement some of that on BLORGE.

Feel free to drop by and check out what I have to say about the subject. Last week I contacted a software developer, and he has agreed to do an interview with me. That should be coming out within a few weeks.

I make a point to thank people and businesses for what they do. Naturally that extends to software developers. If I like a product I’ll follow up with them directly and tell them how much I appreciate creating an excellent product. Over the years, I’ve found that most software developers are very approachable and are more than willing to talk about their product. Occasionally some of them have contacted me when they’ve come out with new products and have given me free copies or beta version of their updated software.

Last week I contacted a software company, and they will be sending me a program that I requested to review. Naturally it’s a NFR (not for retail) copy. I’ve done quite a few personal reviews about software on my website. Quite a few of them have been linked to the software developer, or they’ve included my review (with my permission) on their website. I thought that was very cool. Was it why I wrote about their fabulous products? Definitely not, but it’s nice that people appreciate your reviews.

Writing for a highly trafficked website is a great opportunity to put my name out there while I write about a subject I truly love. It also has given me insight on to where I want my websites to be as they continue to grow. It’s an excellent opportunity. It’s been a little over a week, and I’m doing fairly well. A few of my stories have hit the #1 position, for the keywords used, in Google news. That drove a lot of traffic my way. A few of my posts have been stumbled and one of my post was Dugg 16 times. Yes, titles are extremely important. Not a bad way to begin, eh? Yes, titles are truly important. I’m enjoying the experience and continuing to enhance my skills.

My next post, here on Vegan Momma, is fairly long and it’s titled, “Thoughts on freelance writing or how I get paid to sit around the house and do nothing.” I’ll most likely post that this weekend.

Ha! I hardly think most (or any) freelance writers sit around the house and get paid for doing nothing. Not if they are worth their salt and they won’t get paid if they aren’t. So I’m looking forward to your next post!

    BB,
Once you find the secret clue me in ok? ;-)

    teeni,
Yeah it gave me a giggle when I wrote that title.

    Dui,
I used it last year but I removed it. I remember I had stopped using it because it hadn’t been updated so it was no longer working with my updated WP.

    Mike,
LOL, that might be true. I’m adding other people to that post there are lots of people sitting around doing nothing. :-)

Most programmers if they got a minute love to discuss what they’ve programmed, especially if you kind of know a little bit of programming and you can question them on something kind of ‘getting into it’ slightly deep, they like that you pay attention to their work. I agree, programmers have such unique personalities and are fun to chat with.

Haha, your smoking on fire right now. Congrats on the new writing positing at a Blorge, I really digg your posts and love your writing.
