Feedburner: Tampering Can Be a Bad Thing

Posted on January 29th, 2008 in Blogging Tips by Vegan Momma

A few days ago I was playing around with feedburner. Trust me, it’s something I don’t do often. During my inquisitive play I deleted my Vegan Momma feed and placed it back; however, when I placed it back I gave it the wrong name. It should have been Subscribe to Vegan Momma but I believe I called it something like “blog url + vegan momma” or “blog url + the vegan momma”.

hey, i stopped receiving your feeds. the last entry that came to my google reader was the MLK post :?: . i had to visit your site to realize you had new posts waiting for me to read.

As Dara mentioned towards the end of her comment she was unable to receive my updated feeds. Silly Opal! See what can happen when I start tampering and forget to put things back the way they were? Tsk-Tsk! I’m happy to report that things are back on track, and I imagine those who haven’t been getting my feed updates should in the next few days. You can always subscribe to my RSS feed by using this link.

Later today I’ll post a few of my workout routines but for now I have to add some finishing touches on a few articles and send them off.

Besides having my RSS feeds showing at the top of my page. I really don’t promote them although I can see why I should. You can potentially reach more repeat visitors if you promote your RSS feed.

Question:
Do you promote your RSS feed?

That link (http://feeds.feedburner.com/theveganmomma) you posted gives me a “404 feed not found” error.
Looking forward to your workout routines posts.

Opal - I wondered why you hadn’t posted so I typed your url in my browser. This post hasn’t shown up on my reader at all.

Would it be best for me to unsubscribe and resubscribe, or will it work eventually?

I haven’t done anything to promote my feed yet. I spent months not even realising I hadn’t set it up properly!

I’ve done this before too. But I was trying to change from my own server to a hosted one awhile back and I didn’t want to loose the RSS subscribers.

I messed things up big time too. :D

Nope, I don’t think I do anything to promote my RSS feeds. In fact, I have been too bogged down recently to blog consistently!

LOL, I did the exact same thing back in May when I was switching things around. Luckily, one of my readers let me know about the error before too much time had passed. :P

Opal, I get like that all the time.

This need to fix what isn’t *broken*, and I always end up spending more tim fixing what I broke.

I don’t bother really actively promoting RSS feeds because many novices don’t understand it anyways. I think it just creates a lot of clutter and in the end not many visitors actually “subscribe” .
