Quality Time: Saturday Fun Day

Posted on January 19th, 2008 in My little Angel by Vegan Momma

What better way to spend a Saturday then running around in an indoor playground? All right doing that outside would be better but since it’s cold outdoors this is a suitable compromise.

As the weekend approaches, I tend to slow down the amount of work I do during the day and spend time hanging out with my favorite person in the entire world. Yes that would be my daughter. Friday, Aiyana and I went to a reading circle which she enjoyed immensely and today I took her to Chuck E. Cheese. She had a blast. These days I sit on the sidelines and she runs off and plays with newfound playmates, and I’m ok with that, truly I am. I’m glad she has a great time with others and makes friends so easily.

She helps the kids that are smaller than her climb onto the big slide, waiting patiently, until they are ready to move one. Once she sees, they’ve overcome their fear she plays with them and then is off immersing herself in some new experience. Since I’m sitting on the sidelines I come prepared. I usually bring along reading material although I really don’t read. I mainly watch her. Fridays - Sundays are our special days although I spend time with her daily these days are extra special and usually involves our going somewhere or doing something out of the ordinary.

Take time for those who are important in your life.

The Geek Is Unleashed: Flaunting My Geekiness

Posted on January 19th, 2008 in Freelance writing by Vegan Momma

A few days ago I saw a freelance writing opportunity. It gives me the chance to flaunt my geekiness. Yes I admit I’m a technology geek. I cannot keep my hands off my Mac|Life magazine monthly. I also log into tech forums, read what’s hot on some of my favorite technology blogs. I enjoy writing about compputer technology. I like it almost as much as I enjoy writing abut alternative healing, nutrition, and fitness. Almost, but not quite.

Anyway this job is a geek dream come true, or at least “my geek’s dream came true.” I’ve been following this website religiously since it stormed on the scene last year, and I’ve been a rabid (did I just type that) fan ever since. The interaction with fellow tech heads is very cool, the ability to increase my knowledge is even better; the chance to test out new applications well that takes the excitement to an entirely different level.

Early this morning I heard from the senior editor. The good news is I’m now a part of their team. I’m not revealing where I’m working, but to say I’m happy would be an understatement. I quickly sent an email to the senior editor thanking him for the opportunity. Sheesh I hope I didn’t come off as a groupie, but hey I was happy. I received a reply back from him which made me even happier. I sent him another reply. Hey, I’m excited. I’ve followed his articles for a while and really enjoy his writings.

The website receives a lot of traffic so yeah I guess the spotlight will be on me when my little posts make an appearance. Yes, it’s a predominantly male audience but guess what I became used to that working in the corporate setting. I’m looking forward to the opportunity. I won’t be posting on there a lot as other places, but it’s yet another way to get my name out there. You know I’m all about branding myself. ;-)

I’ve only told one of my blog buddies about this job, and it’s usually the one I go to when I have questions or opinions about various topics. I appreciate their taking the time to listen and respond to my emails, and I know they will keep my secret quiet. ;-)

Thoughts: If I keep sitting sit on the sidelines waiting for the perfect opportunity to fall in my lap I’ll keep riding those sidelines as opportunity after opportunity (and people) move past me. I have to make those opportunities happen. I have to get off butt and turn my dreams into a reality. If I don’t try, I have no one to blame but myself.
