Apologies, Hiring, Updates, & Busy Times

Posted on January 13th, 2008 in Thoughts by Vegan Momma

Over the past few weeks I’ve been devoting my free time to studying. I had a test yesterday. I’m happy to say I’m still maintaining my A+ average with my courses. For those who aren’t aware I’m pursuing my Master’s Degree in Traditional Naturopathy. I’m enjoying the studies and although much of what I’m studying is familiar to myself I still need to need to do additional research.

Responding To Comments & Blog Visits
Some of you might have noticed that my posting, commenting, and blog visits have been extremely light. My apologies for not being able to respond to comments or visit as I normally do I should be back on track towards the end of this week. I’ve been visiting some of you mainly the ones I have been communicating with via email over the past few weeks, and I’ve also been trying to comment on those who don’t receive as much traffic.

Exercise Updates
In my prior posts about exercise, I mentioned that I officially met R in the gym a few days ago. Guess what? I saw him the next day, and now I have another workout partner. I usually work out with D the first three days of the week, and now I’ll be working out with R on the remaining days. I mistakenly thought he was a bodybuilder he’s not. He’s a boxer and is training for an upcoming match. Amazingly his workouts are more intense than the ones I have with D so I have no excuse not to be in competition form.

Software News
I recently discovered an offline blog writing program called MarsEdit 2. I you are on a Mac I highly recommend that you check it out. You can try it out for thirty days for free and the copy is fully functional. As much as I love WordPress I dislike writing online. MarsEdit 2 addresses that issue. Initially, I was doing all my writing in Scrivener however since I loaded MarsEdit 2 to my computer earlier today I’ll be using it for my blog posts. I’m not sure why it took me so long to use an offline blog writing program. With the amount of blogs I have you would think I would have taken care of this a long time ago. Yes this post was created in MarsEdit 2.

Hiring Updates
As of today I have a writer for one of my websites she will most likely be coming on board this spring. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity although she is new to me her work speaks volumes. I’m truly impressed with what she has to offer. I’m paying her a flat fee along with a % of the websites profits.

As the profit increases, and I believe it will, so will her pay. That website has the potential to do very well. I’m already getting a taste to its potential and I rarely post on the website. That tells me a lot. Hiring a writer will take it to the next level. It will free a lot of my blog time and will give me a chance to market my websites and write in other places.

One mistake I see many people make who are interested in making money online is they don’t treat their online activities like a business. It is. You need to have a plan and at times you might have to take risks. You might have to make sacrifices.

Support Makes All the Difference
Thankfully my family and friends are supportive so they don’t feel offended if I don’t have the time to hang out with them. The exception is my daughter. I always make time for her. Their support is wonderful I appreciate they realize how challenging it can be to be the sole supporter with my daughter. As harsh as it sounds I don’t have time for people who aren’t willing to understand the importance making my businesses successful. That is added stress I don’t need.

One of my friends doesn’t have that support and some of his family and friends complain about his lack of time. That’s added stress and something a small business owner, or anyone for that matter, doesn’t need. I’m one of his biggest cheerleaders.

A Business Is Challenging
The money isn’t going to magically fall into your lap. You have to work for it and look at the bigger picture. If you think you can make it up as you go you might not get far and you most likely won’t do as well. I’ve passed people that have been doing this longer than myself; however, when I’ve questioned their plans they didn’t have any. Running my business usually doesn’t feel like work. I love what I do at times sure it can be challenging. Please read Catherine’s post 16 Truths About Starting A Small Business.

Freelance Updates
Projects are going well, and I enjoy the clients I work with the past few weeks have been challenging mainly because of my studies and my brief time I wasn’t feeling well but bounced back with plenty of rest and some natural remedies but thankfully things are back on track. I’m thankful.

New Freelance Website
My new website is averaging 35 unique visitors daily not bad for a website that is three weeks old. I don’t spend a lot of time marketing it I don’t have the time; however, I have left comments on a few websites that has generated traffic I also have received trackbacks, links, and I received my first award last evening. Freelance writing is a business. I’m treating it like one.

I’ve learned a lot during my three years of blogging. I’m at the point where I know what works, at least for me, and I won’t make the same mistakes as I did with Vegan Momma.

Thank You
I would like to personally thank my readers for stopping by Vegan Momma even when I don’t always have the time to return the favor or comment. For those who’ve known me for any length of time realize I’m not like that I enjoy interacting with others and recognizing my readers because you are truly appreciated. Anyway thanks I’ll be visiting your virtual homes soon.
