What Does Your About Page Say About You?
At the end of last month, Mike Goad wrote an excellent article titled What’s in your About page I have to admit when I checked out mine there was definitely room for improvement. I added this to my “to do” pile. if your like myself you will be a repeat visitor to Mike’s website. It’s one of many he has to offer. You can visit his other blogs also he has a blogs about the Civil War, digital photography, camping, hiking, and traveling.
Ok back to Mike’s post…
When I went to my about page, I found, sure enough, that there was nothing there that would tell a visitor what they might expect to find other than that the blog was intended to be a vehicle for me to self-publish material related to some of the things that I am interested in — and that I hoped others might be interested in.
Mike’s post, as usual, got me to thinking. This time I thought of the number of ways that I could make improvements on my about page. I quickly added it to my “to do” list. A few weeks ago I made one minor change to my about page. What did I do? I added a link to my contact page. I wanted to see the reaction. Later that day I received three emails from people who had landed on my about page and contacted me. That really impressed me. Many people will actually look at your about page if you have one. I know it’s one of the first things I do when I stumble upon a new website. Although I knew this I must admit I wasn’t using my about page effectively.
Those emails made me realize that I really needed to work on bringing out my personality on that page. I made added changes a few moments ago. I purposely left my business website off because; frankly, I don’t need any more work right now. I’m still looking to hire additional help.
I still have additional work to do on my about page. I’ll be linking to a few categories like veganism, fitness, and natural hair care (I get a lot of traffic for those terms) however it’s much better than what it was initially. I’m hoping that this will give my visitors a better understanding of what I write about on here and my other websites.
Have I managed to do that? Are you getting a better idea of who I am by reading my about page? Does it need improvement. Please let me know.
Question: What does your about page say about you?

Blogging is such a personal pursuit, that’s one of the great things about it, there are no set rules.
Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday Opal!

I think I will also put this on my *must do* list. Thanks for the tip.

I like your about page, very clear. I think there’s something I wish to know which I can’t find in your about page: where are you from?

Hi Opal I really like your about page. And I love the way you use photographs in your blog.
The only thing I have struggled to find on your blog, which could go on your about page is how to buy the things you make. Do you sell them online?
I need to revamp my about page. Initially it was blank, but now I think it contains too much personal stuff.

About page is often neglected by many, tho it was mentioned, or at least I’ve seen lots of posts, stressing it’s importance. Good about page with lots of relevant information about ‘blog writer simply makes readers trust you more in a way, as they get to know you better.

I only recently looked at Mike’s about page and I was impressed! (I don’t even think impressed covers it…
The thing is, I don’t even have an “About” page to begin with on my blog! I didn’t know where to start… I did have an about page initially and I received a few e-mails from people. Right now it’s in draft mode as I’m editing some of it… But I think I’ve just been inspired to hurry up and redo it… I have to!

When I got Ricardo’s followup comment, I realized that I hadn’t looked at my about page in forever, or at least 9 or ten months. I went back and looked and, sure enough, I needed to do a little tweaking!
