Rescuing Mary’s Little Lamb

Miracles of Christmas

This past holiday season, my daughter, and I made the trek to Pennsylvania. All right so it’s not much of a trek since It’s a little over and hour away. However, when you have an extremely active daughter in the vehicle it can be a memorable experience.

We went to the Sight & Sound theater and saw the play Miracles of Christmas. It’s a huge production filled with singing, elaborate costumes, good actors, and live animals. That was the appeal for my daughter. Seeing the animals, especially one little lamb that my daughter fell in love with. She had only eyes for that little lamb. In the final “lamb appearance” Mary is holding it as she talks to Joseph. The lamb bleated a few times which added to the cuteness factor. Maybe the lamb was getting sick of acting. ;-)

I was unprepared when my daughter hopped out her seat and proceeded to run up the aisle so she could hold that little lamb. Maybe she knew that “lambie” (her name for it I swear) would not be making any more appearances? Thankfully mommy is a lot faster than Aiyana thinks Aiyana has trained mommy well, and I could stop her before she made the attempt to get up on that stage and rescues “her lamb.” Not that she would have gotten up on stage anyway the ramps that bring the horses, camels (lord knows what other live animals they have) were closed. The stage was too high for her to hop on but try telling that to a determined three-year old.

I consoled her afterwards and told her how the little lamb would be much happier being with its mommy then coming home with us. Besides, we didn’t have room for the lamb and the sheep mommy. Because we would have to take her after all along with the daddy, other siblings, other family members, friends, etc. They would miss each other you know. ;-) Yes, I had to think of something quickly. We talked about the food that lambs and sheep eat and the cool games they might like to play. The distraction worked and Aiyana no longer was thinking about getting that lamb. I still think about her attempt to run up on stage. That’s one of my “cute Aiyana stories.”

Question: The topic is cute kid stories why not share a few of yours? It doesn’t have to be something you, or your children have done. Something you’ve observed is good enough.

Mine isn’t quite as dramatic! but a funny one.

One day daddy and I were just resting on the bed and chatting and Chaela comes in, “Why are you guys laying down?” Daddy says, “Because we’re old and tired…”. (joking of course). Mommy says, “Would you like to lay down with us?”. And Chaela replies, “No, I’m new!”

Oh, your story and Beth’s are too funny. My niece when she was a child of about four years, attempted to separate a mother goose from her babies. By the time we caught up to her, she had all the babies in her lap and a big stick in her hand to fend off the mother. We had to explain to her that the mother was just looking to protect her babies and wanted them back. We returned the babies to their rightful owner and all were happy - except my niece who said “I just wanna HOLD one.” LOL. No animals were harmed in this story - she just held the stick out in front of her to keep the mother far enough away. When I first saw her I was torn between giggling and pity for the poor mother.

My best friend’s neice, when she was three years old, was eating dinner with her parents one night.

Her mother noticed that she wasn’t eating much and asked her what was wrong.

The little girl looked her mother in the eye and said “Frankly Mom, dinner was a disappointment.”

The woman and her husband both had to bite their tongues to keep from laughing!

    Beth Ellen,
That’s hilarious. Isn’t it amazing what they say?

    Teeni,
Oh how hilarious and poor mom! :-)

    Andy,
I have quite a few of them. Thanks so much for stopping by. :-)

    TigerYogiji,
LOL what a grown up answer. My daughter does that occasionally. It makes me laugh hysterically.

    Maddy,
Uh Oh! I actually saw it in the wee hours of this morning. I haven’t had a chance to pop by and claim my award. I’ll be visiting.
