Vegan Momma Does Freelance Writing On Health, Nutrition, & Fitness

Cartoon ~ Calvin & Hobbes (writing)

A few of you might have noticed that I started incorporating my exercise routines into my postings. The reason is fairly simple several of my readers have been emailing me about veganism, nutrition, and exercise. I comment on it occasionally but I haven’t wrote about it extensively for quite some time. I write about it often on a few of my other websites I started slacking on Vegan Momma.

What Brings People To Vegan Momma?

With search engines, checking out my stats, the articles that I wrote about nutrition, fitness, and loc’s aka dreadlock care are my most highly viewed pages. The article I wrote on high blood pressure is still the highest trafficked page (except my front page) that I’ve written yet. The average time spent on that article is 28 minutes. I wrote that article in July. That makes me very happy! It tells me that people are interested in their health.

A few weeks ago I predicted that Associated Content would drive traffic to my website and checking out the stats I’m happy to see that it has. I haven’t actively marketed myself on Associated Content. However in the future I will. The great thing is I’m getting paid for the articles I submit.

Reaching A Larger Audience

I try to write in a way where almost anyone can read it. You won’t see me using a lot of technical words. I do my best to explain things in common English and occasionally I’ll try to add personal references. I do my best to engage my audience. In doing this I believe I’m able to reach a larger audience. Since one of my goals is outreach on Vegan Momma this is extremely important.

I don’t pay too much attention to the overall numbers. I feel that if I continually write about interesting topics, such as the ones that bring people to Vegan Momma, if the content is good my numbers will increase. The past few weeks since I made these added changes my readers have shot up by over 100 unique visitors daily. My numbers keep increasing simply because I added variety to my typical entries. I listened to what my stats were saying. I also listen to the feedback I receive from people who approach me in real life, on my blog, or those who contact me by email.

Freelance Writing

Over the past few weeks I’ve picked up a few freelance writing positions. They are connected to health. I’m enjoying it immensely since I wanted to work on other outlets besides my websites, and it gives me a chance to write in a different style. I like stepping outside the box. Writing articles in a way that I think will be appealing to others is something I think about I rely heavily on the interactions I’ve had with people I coach in real life, and to a certain extent online.

I’m not making 7k monthly as Chris, the freelance writer, has done, but I’m just beginning. By the way stop by Chris’s website and read his valuable tips on freelance writing. I’ve been reading his website every single day. Sure, I have books on the subject but I’m finding that I like what he has to say a lot more. He’s extremely friendly and has made me feel welcome at his virtual home. A lot of his principles can be applied to blog writing.

Although I’ve written the occasional paid review on Vegan Momma that is something you won’t see me doing often. I still much prefer writing personal reviews. Based on the community I’ve created here I know they would not go over well, and to be truthful I would get tired of doing them. Freelance writing still gives me the opportunity to write for others. When I wrote the reviews for a variety of companies (that I liked) I found out that I really enjoyed it.

Freelance writing still gives me that opportunity to write and get paid for it. The only difference is my articles are appearing elsewhere. The beauty of this is I don’t have to worry about alienating my readers by writing about something they might not be interested in. Looking at my statistics, as a whole, I don’t believe I have written them enough to be a problem.

Freelance Ghostwriting

The past few weeks I received two additional freelance writing jobs. They are both ghost writing positions. What’s a Ghostwriter? A ghostwriter is a freelance writer that has been hired to write for someone else. Once the work is completed, the other person receives credit as the author. You cannot take credit for the work or publish the article elsewhere. The copyright transfers to the buyer. Some people might think of this as cheating. I don’t in my case I’m working with the people and using their ideas to create articles. I’m enjoying this immensely.

One is for a website and the other is writing articles for an online ezine. Ghost Writing is something I’ve always wanted to do. I now have a total of four freelance writing jobs. The best time for me to write is usually early morning or later evening. I usually examine what I’ve written later in the day, make edits and submit. Interestingly my articles that I’m working on usually work their way into my dreams.

Online Monetizaton Is Bringing A Few Thousands Per Month

My traffic keeps increasing however, I do think if you write paid reviews excessively you run the potential of turning off your regular readers simply because they might think I am only writing them to get paid. It’s not the reason. I write about them because I genuinely like the product or service. Writing those types of reviews might not be the best choice if you are attempting to build a community.

Guess what? Freelance writing will be bringing me in almost $800 added dollars this month. The projects vary in price and some are higher than others but guess what? I’m treating them all the same. I enjoy each of them. I made a few thousand with online monetization last month. The majority of my income was made via affilate and adsense. Affiliate being my number one money maker. However freelance writing has now moved into the #2 spot. Now that I think of it it’s not the first month I’ve made a few thousand it and it definitely won’t be the last. This month I should do even better.

It’s not the main source of my income. I have my own business. Making money online is a lot of work! I didn’t get to the point I’m at now by sitting on my butt whining about how difficult it was and automatically assuming others are lying about their earnings because I wasn’t making it!  How whack is that? I also didn’t wait for someone to tell me what to do. I thought outside of the typical make money online box.  There is more ways to make money online besides adsense, reviews, and affiliate marketing I started out other methods, such as freelance writing, myself.  I’ll be doing direct sales on another website next year.

I normally don’t follow the traditional make money online blogs I find for the most part they ones I was visiting was only giving out piece meal. That really wasn’t helping me. I wanted the full story. I decided after a few weeks that I needed more so I ventured out on my own. I asked a few people for advice and thought about how I would like to make money online. I did my research and now I’m well on my way to achieving my online goals.

Blog Visits Will Be Light

I haven’t been commenting on other blogs as much as I normally do. I definitely miss my blog buddies. I have many projects on my plate, and I want to assure they are completed in a timely fashion however after this weekend I should be back to visiting my blog friends at my normal rate.

Also The Big C will be in Virgina for 36 hours starting tomorrow. He naturally surprised me with that news yesterday so I’ll be spending some time with him tomorrow evening. He’ll be back at sea later Saturday. He told me he didn’t want to wait until the end of December to see me. Isn’t that sweet? Yep, I have a huge smile on my face because I do miss him. I cannot wait to see him. ;-)

Question: When it comes to writing when are you the most creative?

Well, we have to balance time for our work, family and blog. Have a good time with Big C. I like the idea of freelance writing and ghost writing too. As I have told you before, after starting a blog, I find that I like writing a lot and I told hubby that I want to write an ebook or a book. I know that’s a BIG DREAM but if I don’t dream, it will never come true. Do you happen to have any writing opportunities for me? At least it will be a start for me. PLEASE?

    teeni,
I like to think of it that way. Well I’m waiting to hear back from him about when he is available today. Silly me, since I thought he was going to be close I thought he had a free day. Apparently they will still be working the ship is just coming in for 36 hours.

    JO-N,
Thanks, it will be nice to see him.
I use a few websites that post freelance jobs. I’ll post the places I’m looking in it’s own post.

Wow! 28 minutes average. That’s a lot of time to be spending on an article. Maybe people are taking notes? Good example of high quality content.
