Exercise: Fitness Monday
Yesterday as I walked into Bally’s I thought “Uh oh” you see the gym was crowded. It looks as if everyone were trying to squeeze in a quick exercise just like myself, and here I thought I would be avoiding that by arriving early. I go early for a reason to avoid the crowds. I’m able to exercise on the majority of the equipment without waiting. That wasn’t happening yesterday. There were so many people in the gym that I thought it must be a holiday? I was wrong there wasn’t a holiday.
However, a positive did come out of this experience I now have a workout partner for today. D, has been going to Bally’s longer than myself and although we have chatted briefly before not to the point we did yesterday. D’s in phenomenal shape and his style of training is a lot like mine. It’s freestyle. When I was younger, I would have days where I would work on certain body parts as the years progressed I moved away from that. Whatever I feel needs to be worked on I do. I’ve noticed the most results doing this.
There are a few bodybuilders, who compete, that work out at the Bally’s I attend. We talked about competition. He used to compete. I told him about my desire to compete. Although I work out daily, I’m finding it hard to put in the time to make it happen. I told him this yesterday when he commented about my fitness level.
We talked about nutrition. He used to be vegetarian but when he wanted to put on weight he started consuming animals again. That led to a great discussion about the myths associated with vegetarianism. I talked about the ways he could still up his caloric intake without consuming animals. I also pointed out a few professional athletes that were vegetarian/vegan Robert Cheeke, Kenneth Williams, Brendan Brazier, Carl Lewis, Christine Vardaros, Charlie Abel. He was impressed.
I had one of my vegan fitness baby tee’s on and I talked, briefly, about the reasons I became Vegan. He was very interested. Since I always have my cards. I gave him a card for my website. I always have cards on hand because I never know when I might need them it helps me stand out above the crowd.
Kicking it up a notch in my exercise routine has always had a fabulous effect on my fitness levels, and I’m already starting to see more definition in my legs. I really need to take pictures so I can document the process. At times, during my workouts, I have just gone through the motions of performing the exercise. That’s not good. Thankfully I haven’t done that often. It happens when I get bored with an exercise routine. That is always a good indication for me to try something else. When I concentrate on the exercises as I do them, I definitely notice a difference after my workouts.
Today is my day to lift heavy. When I work out heavy I always hit the free weights hard. Since I have a training partner today I’ll be training to muscle failure.
Question: How much physical activity do you do on a weekly basis?

I am finally getting back into a regular fitness regime, starting with working out on a stationary bike and using free weights. I had injured my foot early in the summer and this put so many activities on hold. It’s great to be more active again, I don’t feel well if I don’t exercise.

I don’t do enough. LOL. I try to get in a brisk 30 min walk at least 3 times a week, but I want to up that to every day, and just do weights 3 times a week.

Hey, I was in the local gym last night! Not to workout, but to meet the 1963 Downhill Ski record holder, CB Vaughan, for some freelance work. He’s an amazing man who emanates positivity. I hope I have the opportunity to work for him.
Back in the day, I did a lot of road cycling. You have no idea how brutal that sport can be. Lactic acid building up in your legs made them feel 100 pounds heavier and the tires on the bike felt like they were going flat. Talk about muscle failure - I had a few moments where I bonked hard and was ready to fall down and die. It’s hard to explain it to anyone who hasn’t experienced total muscle failure. But that’s the beauty of it - triumph over adversity. You understand, I’m sure. :)
These days, I’m a keyboard jockey, but I’m hoping that will change soon. I miss having a 48 bpm resting heart rate.

So glad you got a partner to work out with. Now you can do more, vary your routine more, and be safer in addition. :) Good idea to always have those cards handy, too. When you own your own businesses you really do always have to market yourself. ;)

Veggie, Crafts, & Tails,
Good for you! It’s always inspiring to hear what others are doing. I know what you mean I feel bad if I miss my workouts.
DragonLady,
You’re off to a good start. Daily walk along with three days of lifting. You’ll be doing very well!
pete,
believe it or not I used to cycle with a coworker. We biked quite a few miles so yes I definitely understand what you are talking about with that lactic acid build up. Although I experience it during my workouts it’s nowhere near the feeling I would get from biking.
good herbal,
It might help if you map out your day. That is what I did and I found that I could squeeze in a workout. :-)
teeni,
You can promote your personal website that way also. ;-) Yes it’s good to have partner. I didn’t get in there this morning but I’ll be heading to the gym in about an hour.

I play hockey a few times a week, but have not been weight training for a while.
I’m also trying to get back into resistance training after over a one year layoff. It always seems like the first two weeks are the hardest, but once you break past that point things get easier.
