Raw Food Cravings: What Are You Craving
Occasionally I’ll crave a food for days. The past few days I’ve been craving pasta not just any type of pasta but raw pasta. I have never been too fond of the traditional pasta that was available. It always seemed like a lot of empty calories to me; however, I do love raw veggie pasta.
Raw veggie pasta has replaced the traditional pasta in our household. I consider it one of my raw food staple ingredients. My daughter loves it and eagerly eats up her bowl, and mine, if I let her whenever it is on the menu. In the summer months I was making it at least once per week; however, as the organic zucchini dwindled in our garden the pasta does not make an appearance on our menu as much.
However, today this will be on our menu. Are you wondering how you make pasta with vegetables?
I have pasta ready in less than a minute. If you want a recipe check out Raw Pasta in Five Minutes. I’ve also included a picture of the pasta. When I first started making veggie pasta I had purchased the saladacco. I wasn’t pleased with the noodles I received, and it didn’t give me the variety of noodles that the spiral slicer gives me. With the spiral slicer, I have three different sizes to choose from.
Since I’ve delving deeper into my quest to be the ultimate vegan fitness goddess I’ve been increasing my workouts at the gym. I’ve also been upping my intake of greens. I want to insure my nutritional needs are being met. One easy way I’ve been adding more into my diet is by simply incorporating them into the raw fruit smoothies that I prepare. It’s a delicious and healthy way to insure me that my nutritional needs are still being met.
I’ve noticed that when I consume I high amount of greens my cravings for raw foods also increase. My diet consists of about 80% raw foods; however, upping my intake of greens I’ll be raw several days.
Question: What have you been craving?

I used to crave and eat raw before I came to this dentally obsessed country! [I mean that in the nicest way of course] These days it more mushy [teethwise and food]
Another natty gadget [no idea what it's called] is something that looks like a little ring pull. You shove the pointy end into a cucumber [something sort] and then twist and twist and you end up with a spiral! [do you see how hard I have to work to make food 'exciting!]
Cheers

Maddy,
That had me laughing.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have one of those also. It’s a great way to decorate your food using that handy gadget and of course it’s “edible art”.

Oh I hate making pasta from scratch. I used to have to do that in the restaurant because the boss was fixed on having everything home made. Until the time and expense got too high.
Now I have a craving for some spaghetti. Thanks a lot!

I don’t really crave for anything but I do like fruits mixed with yogurt. By the way, I have not tried raw pasta before. I wonder how it taste.

I’ve been craving peanut butter lately too. I actually bought some sunbutter which is really similar to peanut butter except made with sunflower seeds and I actually think I like that better than peanut butter. I could always eat pasta too though. the wheat kind or the veggie kind - even better - some of both! Okay, I really don’t need to be thinking of food now at 1:00 a.m. G’night! ;)

i used to be a big fan of raw food, especially raw fruits and veg (usually juiced when i was strict vegetarian for 5 years) however after doing some research i found this can actually be very bad for you, as glucose weakens the immune systems by upto 50% for around 5 hours making you more suceptible to disease and infection. even if you dont agree at least read these studies, especially if you have children

Talina,
Those sound lovely.
JO-N,
I like the taste of raw pasta. The texture is firm, and it has some of the flavor of zucchini however during marination I’ve noticed that it takes on the flavor of the sauce.
chinnee,
Organic raw foods are a healthy option lot of studies have been done on the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
Veggies, Crafts, & Tails,
I haven’t had peanut butter in years. My father liked eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
teeni,
LOL, yeah 1:00 in the morning is not a good time to think of food.
Self Improvement Ideas,
Thanks for stopping by.
I checked out the study, but I have to say that is a very poor example. In the research, the patients were fed sugar, which included fructose. They weren’t being fed whole fruit. That is entirely different. When you are fed whole fruit you are receiving the other benefits of the fruit or vegetable besides its sugar. They also didn’t say what the patients eating lifestyle was like since that would play a role as well.
Many of your fruits and vegetables such as apples, blueberries, carrots, blueberries, greens, to name a few actually boost your immune system. When it comes to nutrition, I do my research thoroughly I wish more people would do that.
People do consume too much sugar. Usually the ones that have no nutritional value whatsoever. They are also consuming other foods that arent good for them. Eating too many prepackaged, highly processed meals. More people need to be consuming whole foods instead. It it a wonder that we have a health crisis in our country. There is a huge disconnect when it comes to food.
People need to become aware of what they put into our bodies if we continually feed it the wrong thing how in the world do we think we’ll perform effectively? Nutrition is something I’m very passionate about so naturally I’ve read a lot on the subject.
When people are constantly getting sick I usually take a look at what they are consuming. If they are willing to make a change in their diet usually their immune system will improve and naturally they’ll be more resistant to disease.
I do have a four year old daughter and she is extremely healthy. I make smart choices when it comes to what she eats. In our westernized culture, our poor eating habits are not only apparent in the physical appearance but also for health related diseases that can be seen in westernized culture.

My Aunt Gladys used to make her own pasta. Oh, she made the best spaghetti. *sigh* Well, I’m craving her spaghetti now which I can never have. :-(
Normally, I crave chips. Usually Doritos or Cheetos, but I took chips out of my diet back in 2001. Oh, I will have some every now and again, but they are few and far between.

DragonLady,
Why can’t you have it. Are you allergic or are you trying to eliminate it from your diet? Try the raw pasta. It will give you the appearance of pasta and it is very tasty.
Butch,
I love celery. I purchased it a few days ago. My daughter was trying to snatch a stalk even before I put it in the crisper, lol.

I can’t have hers because she passed away back in 2002. Granted, she hadn’t made it for years prior to that, and after she had to move to town, it was never the same anyway because she couldn’t grow the same good tomatoes she did out in the country. Heck, when she lived in the country, she used almost nothing that wasn’t home grown. She would babysit me every now and then, and I loved going with her to gather eggs.

It’s always spicy chilli tofu for me [Thai] as I’m a creature of habit.
I do drink a lot of raw veg juice and cooked greens most nights, so I’m probably not doing too badly.
Other than that, I think I’m pretty ‘crave’ free, which has got to be good.
Cheers
