Smoothies: So Hungry I Could Drink A….

By Opal Tribble on December 1, 2007 · 10 Comments

…Alright so I’m not sure what I could eat but I know what I would drink. I’ve always had a high metabolism, combine that with an insanely high energy level and you have someone that is always looking for high calorie options so the weight doesn’t fall off. My workouts have intensified so this is even more important. Today was cardio day in the gym.

I made a green energy drink this morning before heading to the gym. The Procor Oliptical Cross trainer was screaming my name so I hopped on it.The incline was set to 20. That’s the highest it can go. My resistance was 8. Basically I was running uphill for the thirty minutes. One of these days I’ll have to videotape my workouts. I ran a little under two miles non stop.

I felt great my calves and hamstrings are feeling the burn now. I wasn’t finished my workout and moved onto squats, leg presses and abdominal exercises I ended my session by sitting in the sauna for about an hour. Thankfully they fixed the shower in the pool area so I was able to have my beloved sauna rounds.

As a vegan I’m asked often where I receive my protein. Well you can find them in vegetables, legumes, grains, and seaweed. I’m a whole food vegan so I rarely eat tofu or the meat analogues out there. There simply not as healthy as whole foods. Robert Cheeke and Kenneth Williams are vegan bodybuilders and are a few of the many vegans that show what can be done following a plant based diet.

What will I eat most likely it will be fruit although I’m really craving another green energy drink? What’s stopping me from making one. Well, making one means I have to go outside and pick rhubarb from the garden. It’s kind of cold outside yah know however Lalita and Mr. Bentley need to be walked so stopping by the garden most likely will be on my to do list while I’m outside.

Adding greens to your fruit smoothies don’t make the drink better in fact the only indication that something wild is going on is the green color that the greens give to the smoothie however it is delicious and oh so good for you. Some seem to think that green leafy vegetables reduce your cravings. Perhaps because greens are packed with the natural vitamins and minerals your body craves so instead of constantly searching for something to fulfill your craving your bodies needs have been met?

Green leafy vegetables are one of the most concentrated forms of nutrition. They pack quite a wallop when it comes to nutrition you will find them loaded with Vitamin K, E, C, and many B vitamins. If that wasn’t enough they are also loaded with phytonutrients including beta caretene, lutein, and zeaxanthin?

Why are they so important? Well for starters they protect our cells from damage and our eyes from eye related problems. My eyesight improved simply by upping my intake of freshly prepared juices and smoothies. How do I know my eyesight improved? My optometrist appointment confirmed it.

Well it’s time to take my dogs for a walk. I need to pick some greens. ;-)
