I was chatting with a friend on the phone last evening, and they commented about the websites that I own. You surely have a lot Opal! Why in the world do you have so many? I know the reasons vary depending on each person, but I created mine because I enjoy the fact that my other websites are much narrower in focus. It gives me a chance to explore, learn, and interact with others who share similar interests. It also gives those who search for my topics a one stop source where they can gather information.

My newest website A Homeschool Resource. My tag is “Helping Young Minds Soar” that is something I strive to do not only with my own daughter but the children I interact with. The beauty of this website is that it will eventually give me an opportunity to connect with other homeschooling parents by inviting them to my virtual home.
I saw this theme over at Brown Baron’s cool gadgets website. He was reviewing Mark’s new website Darn Good Reviews. You can also find him at Me & My Drum. I still have a lot of tweaking to do but I love the feel of this theme. By the way these bloggers, Brown Baron and Mark, are both excellent. Why not stop by and visit their friendly communities?
When I logged onto My Blog Log yesterday I noticed I had received an invite to participate in an upcoming homeschooling blog carnival. Initially, I wasn’t going to accept the invite but the more I thought about it I realized this was an excellent opportunity to connect with the homeschooling community.
Today will mark the eight day that this website has gone live. I’m averaging sixty unique visits per day and they are landing on many of the articles that I’ve written, thus far I think I’ve written ten. I have more that have been written and will be released over the next few weeks.
My posts are usually long. That’s not bad for a website that is a little over one week old. My visitors are staying on my website for an average of six minutes. I’m very happy with how it’s going. The comments at the moment are low but in time those will increase if I want that to happen.
In some ways this will be my most “personal” website since it’s focused on something that I find extremely important, my daughter and education. I also think in time I’ll be able to build an excellent community. Thankfully I already know the direction I want to go with A Homeschool Resource so I will escape some of the mistakes that I made with Vegan Momma.
How Many Website Do I Own?
How many websites do I have? In total I have twelve websites, I have three of them parked seven of them I’ve talked about on here or one of my other websites and two others I have not mentioned at all. I sold one domain a little while ago for a very nice little profit; however, most of my domains/websites I do consider my babies and would not even think of selling. I did acquire a domain a few months before a hot tech product hit the market and that is doing fairly well.
Website Monetization
Although the majority of my websites weren’t created to make money many of them have. I write about topics that I truly enjoy.
Reviews
I’ll still do paid posts, and to be honest I thought I would stop completely but I realized something I enjoy writing them. If I see something that I like I’ll write about it. I write the reviews the way I want to write them. Their are many advertisers that let you do this of course I won’t unnecessarily slam an advertiser. I’ll treat them with respect if I see areas where they can possibly improve I’ll point it out in a respectful manner.
I have a review coming out later today, and like my other reviews I’m really happy about it. However this one is different because I’m writing about another blogger. I never met this blogger until I saw their offer. I must say that I’m really enjoying their website and I have added their virtual home to my RSS feed.
There are some advertisers that pay attention to how you write reviews for others. They might contact you if they like what you’ve written. I know I have been contacted a lot. My reviews always go over the required word limit. I don’t have to count the words. The past few weeks I’ve received offers from advertisers to do reviews. Each of them were over $100. I turned them all down with the exception of one. I treat my paid posts like my regular posts. I’m proud of them.
Affiliate Marketing
Hands down, for me, affiliate marketing blows adsense out of the water. Some might do better with adsense but I don’t want to be dependent on adsense. How much do I make with adsense? Currently I average about $60 per month with Adsense. I do think my affiliate blocks will compete with adsense on some of my websites but I don’t care. Affiliate advertising is doing much better.
It can be a lot of work (affiliate marketing) and if you don’t put a lot of effort into it most likely you won’t be making anything. However, for me, it has been worth it. Over the past few weeks with just one of my affiliates I’ve been averaging at least one sale per day. I have at least thirty companies that I’m affiliated with. The beauty is I can choose the companies so I know the ones I choose are good. I imagine the holidays has something to do with it but my traffic for those terms linked to that affiliate store has increased also.
Direct Marketing
Of course I do well with my business. I sell directly to my customers. It’s a steady and reliable source of income although in time I do think affiliate marketing will be steady.
Guess what? When I took a break from Vegan Momma this past week, I still posted on a few of my other websites. They aren’t as busy as Vegan Momma, and I don’t post on them as often as here but they still receive a fair amount of traffic, in fact, one receives more.
Question: If you own more than one domain. Why did you create them?
