Lake Marion: Driftwood
Today’s Photo Hunters topic is “Smelly”. Clicking on the image will take you to a larger photo. This photo was taken this past November while I was on holiday in South Carolina. It was taken right after a heavy rainstorm. We stayed at a condo right on the waterfront. The view was gorgeous. My daughter and I walked on the pier several times daily.
The water had risen very high and the tiny beach that was located on the left hand side was almost completely submerged under water. Although the lake did not have a powerful stench it did have a noticeable smell the rain helped wash some of that funk away! You can view a few more pictures of the lake and other photos at Opal Tribble’s photography blog.
The photo was taken with my Nikon D80. The photo editing was completed in Aperture 1.5.

I bet it did have an odor. Around here, on the beaches, the seaweed really stinks.
Drop by and see my “smelly blog” today if you have time.

I wonder what the bad smells were from. So you have Aperture! Some day I will, too. I hear you can do wonderful things with it.

Hootin’ Anni,
I love your smelly. Yes there was “Seaweed” that was washed up also. If it’s in a lake do they call it “lakeweed”? :-)
Andree,
I think it was the seaweed that was washed up on shore. That wasn’t smelling too good thankfully the heavy downpour got rid of most of that funky odor.
You can try Aperture out free for thirty days by clicking on this link http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/ I wish more companies did things like this.

When I look at the photo, it looks kind of refreshing, like it would smell nice. With your writing, I now have a smelly beach smell conjured up in my senses. I can almost smell a funky odor. Thanks!

I love the green hue (must be moss) on the rock.
For some odd reason I never realised you had a photoblog too!! I might start one, just for fun. I’ll wander over to yours now for some inspiration.

LOL I love the shot. I am a strange one. I love being around water, so that smell to me is a good smell. Not one I would want in my home, mind you, just one I associate with relaxing and enjoying myself

jams,
I thought of this one immediately. I have fond memories of walking by the water. I love water. The rain made it a little more bearable for my daughter. She kept commenting how stinky it was, lol. For me well it just smelled like water.
Kate,
 You made me chuckle, lol. Well you can keep your original image in your head. ;-)
marcia,
Yes, I loved that also. I kept going to that lake to walk with my daughter, read, and of course take pictures.
Forest Parks,
Yes there was a fair amount of algae and moss around the rocks.
And Miles To Go,
Thanks, I loved your’s also. :-)
teeni,
You’re so funny. I can hear you and my daughter now, PU! Yes I loved that color also.
SnoopytheGoon,
Thanks! I love your name.
Calamity,
I love being around the water also. I forgot about the smell until I was working on the pictures last night. My daughter was there wrinkling up her nose and commenting how “stinky” it was!

Stine,
I truly enjoyed your smelly. It made me think of my daughter when she was that age. :-)
Bobby Revell,
I agree you can capture anything and turn it into a work of art. I see beauty in many things. :-) Thanks!

Opal - you are brilliant at taking photos. What is Southern Carolina like. I’ve always wanted to go there. Are the people friendly?

Lake can get that “funk” stink to them when they aren’t moving fast enough. I like the picture and the story behind it. Have a great weekend!

Opal, South Carolina is on the top of the most beautiful states I’ve ever been to. I am a big fan of Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.
And this picture really brings a lot of memories. Along with the memories of the fresh air the storm brings after it leaves.

MamaArcher,
I definitely agree. Rain can be cleansing. :-)
Liz,
Thanks! I love driftwood also.
April,
It sure is I had to take this picture. I love going to South Carolina,
Drew,
You are correct. I love the way things smell after a rainstorm.
Catherine,
You are so kind. I enjoy taking photos recently I’ve been focusing on the technical aspects of photography that is something I’ve avoided for many years. It will be interesting to see my improvements. Actually I’ve already seen some.
In regards to South Carolina it’s like anywhere else you have all types of people that live there. I’ve found the ones I’ve encountered to be extremely friendly.
peppylady,
I don’t have a Blogger account after I left the link I realized that I did not make it “clickable” my aplogies. Thanks so much for stopping by also. I loved your “Smelly”. The septic tank post brought back many smelly memories.
Heather,
Thanks! Yes lakes to me always have a distinct odor.
Terry,
This is true. There is a stream on our property and it gets the same aroma. Telling the story brought back a lot of memories.
lutchi,
Everything in the lake smelled like the lake, lol. :-) I’m on my way over as soon as I post this reply.
Sharon,
It truly is a beautiful state. I love my time there usually I don’t want to leave. I’ve heard Mrytle Beach is lovely. I have not been there but I have had the pleasure of being in Hilton Head. I’m glad that the picture gave you a positive memory.

Opal, and one of these days, I’ll buy a house where you can find driftwood like that the minute you step out of the house.

Sharon,
Driftwood right at the house. That would be a lovely dream home. Sighs
Harmonia,
Yes it is beautiful. I’m going to print one of these pictures and frame it. I cannot believe it took me so long to go through my Thanksgiving pictures. I took a few thousand pictures while I was in South Carolina.
Patricia,
I really enjoyed the time I was there and I imagine it did smell salty now that I think about it. I’ll definitely be popping by your spot again. :-)

I’ve been framing stuff for a few weeks and am enjoying it more than I thought I would!!! :)
