Who Takes Care Of You When You Are Down?

Posted on September 28th, 2007 in Health/Nutrition, My little Angel by Vegan Momma

My daughter Aiyana

I’m the one that usually does the nurturing, and I admit it’s hard to let someone step in and take over. I woke up this morning not feeling so great I truly believe it was the Brussels sprouts I had purchased from the grocery store. My daughter didn’t eat any. I’m stubborn I got up like normal fed Aiyana, played with her and started doing work.

My daughter is very preceptive and asked me, “Mommy what’s wrong?” “Oh nothing, I said. Aiyana got up and stood right in front of me looking directly in my eyes she said, “Mommy, it’s not nice to tell tales!” What’s wrong? In between my laughter I told her, “Mommy isn’t feeling so great I believe it was the sprouts I ate.” Aiyana patted me on the shoulder, “It’s ok mommy, I’ll take care of you!” “You always take care of me.” Of course that gave me a warm feeling. I smiled and gave her a big hug and told her how much I loved and appreciated her. She was happy.

Can you believe my daughter forced me to stop working? Who can say no to a four-year old on a mission? I can’t. As a business owner, at times, you still might have to work when you are not feeling so hot. Thankfully I rarely feel like I did earlier but since my work was done, my customers packages were ready for shipment I listened. She was concerned about me. Aiyana went on to tell me about herbal teas and how some of them are very good for upset stomachs.

Oh yeah I wasn’t off the hook with the Brussel Sprouts. She said, “You know mommy I told you not to eat those last night, but did you listen to me, No! No! No! She had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Anyway at her suggestion I drank ginger root tea and she put a few drops of lavender essential oil and peppermint essential oil in our diffusers. Why? The essential oil of peppermint is excellent for nausea and upset stomachs.

She also told me to take a nap. I really needed one. She took one also she said although she really wasn’t tired she had to take care of mommy. When we awakened she told me I needed more ginger root tea. She took out her spray bottle, which is scented with the essential oils of peppermint & lavender and went around spraying the rooms. She said, Mommy not only will this cleanse the air it will also soothe your tummy!” I wonder where she learned all that information. ;-)

Although I feel that I’m back to my old self I’ll take it easily today and just drink liquids. That’s what the little naturopath has ordered anyway. What is she eating? At least one night per week, I make food in bulk. I store it in the freezer and pull it out when I’m too busy to prepare a meal. She has decided she wants Indian cuisine so she will have a homemade tv dinner early today she ate Creamy Black Bean Peanut Soup along with fresh vegetables and fruit.

She talked about how our bodies, at times has to work extra hard, to eliminate the bad things that are trying to get out. Aiyana said, “We should not try to suppress (yes she used that work) it but rather work harmoniously with our bodies to bring about healing”.

My daughter is smarter than most people I know when it comes to how our bodies work. I have to admit I talk to her often, ok every day, about nutrition. I tell her how the foods we eat can work with us or against us. To make things more real to her I give her examples our dogs and ferrets are often used in those examples it helps her understand the concepts a lot better. She “gets” it so she is not just parroting what she hears.

I think it’s important for me to educate her, and I don’t need to wait to do it as a vegan and having a mommy that don’t believe that allopathic medicine is necessarily the first thing we should reach for if we have an ailment I’m arming her with enough information that she can properly defend herself when she is “attacked” for our lifestyle. Eventually she will be.

It’s always nice to have someone to look out for us when we are down. Right? Regardless if it is physical or emotional. Although I was not expecting it from my daughter, it truly was appreciated, and I let her know how proud I was of her.

Question: Who takes care of you when you are down?

Wow, she really knows her stuff!
I’ve been under the weather also.

Wow - Opal, you are really teaching her so much. She already knows way more than I do. And it is so sweet that she was nurturing you in turn for all that you do for her. This is what happens when you lead by example and not just tell kids to “do as I say, not as I do.” I’m sorry to hear you were under the weather but I am so glad you had your little healer there to help you. I can’t think of anyone better equipped, although I would have tried to help if I could. Hope you are back to 100% soon. Hugs to you!

I’m so sorry for being a little behind on my commenting. I was grinning from ear to ear on how she took charge when you wasn’t well. She’s gonna be a great nurturer like you. I do hope you get to feeling better soon.

    MacBro’s,
I’ll let her tell you a few things. ;-) I’m sure she would do a lot of fussing. I don’t know why but for some reason I get the feeling you are pretty obstinate if you want to be! that’s ok so is she!

    teeni,
I felt better that day! I just took it easy. My daughter loved that!
If I had my way all children, and adults, would be received education, such as I give her on “how health works” in school. If they could see cause and effect of their actions at a young age perhaps it would aid them in making better food choices. ;-) However I’ll do my part by educating on the net. I have a lot of stories I could tell about the impact I had on my mentee’s, lol.

    Beth,
Yes she is my little powerhouse.

    Sassy,
Thanks so much. I felt beetter about six hours later but I decided to take it easy the rest of the day! :-)

My comment must not have “taken” the other day…sorry…

I just think this is the BEST pic. She’s a sweetie and a great learner. She learns from the best…her mommy!

As for me…I don’t get down often, but I usually have to take care of myself…sigh

Sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well, but it sounds like you have someone there that is happy to help take care of you - that is awesome.

I can’t believe I took all those nutrition classes, it all sounds vaguely familiar, but it is great that you are teaching Aiyana to eat healthy. Kids learn their eating habits from their parents. Teach them to eat healthy and make good choices and they will.

    BTW- Great shot of Aiyana.

Oh, that’s sweet of her. I was thinking her cute little voice when she said that to you. She reminded me of my niece when she told her mom during giving birth to her younger brother, “What was inside your tummy, mom? Was that an angel? She’s so cute. I miss her.
