A Veggie Lovers Paradise?

Pumpkins, Zucchini, red bell pepper, and watermelons
Here’s what was picked from my garden today. It’s not a lot of produce but it’s a start. I’m currently taking a break but I have a lot more gardening to do today. That’s a workout. You know I should have posted this for Wordless Wednesday? I think I’ll take garden shots later today and display them for Wordless Wednesday.
I’m always getting a workout whether I’m gardening or doing maintenance work around the house or physically going to the gym for a workout. I don’t think I’ll make it to the gym today but I will be doing a pilates workout at home.
Squash, peppers, cherry tomatoes
Yummy! A raw foodiest or veggie lovers paradise. Do you know what this produce has in common? They’ve never been sprayed with chemicals and the harmful bugs avoid it like the plague? What do I use? Neem oil & Peppermint essential oil the bugs cannot stand it.
The carrier I use for the solution is a mixture of water and oil. The oil helps the formula protects the plants while coating them. It does not harm them. I have sprayer and I walk through the garden and spray every single plant. It takes a few hours to spray the entire garden. It’s about 3/4 of an acre. I enjoy walking up and down the rows. Occasionally I have to stand on tip toe to reach some of the plants.
If your base for defending some of the harmful chemicals that are being used is that the “other side” suggests safer alternatives than that really isn’t an argument. Instead of becoming argumentative and defending harmful substance, that is used maybe we you need to educate yourselves on the potential dangers of constantly using them.
There are many natural products that effectively protect the plants as well as chemical. I know I use them in my gardening. My produce is organic, and yes you can taste the difference between freshly picked vegetables, organic and non organic vegetables. An environmentally friendly option that is not harmful to other life forms and it’s a cheaper alternative. What more could you ask for?
Freshly picked pears
We’re usually watched when we are in the garden. The praying mantis watch us with interest as do the spiders. The ants are too busy working, they’re always working, so they don’t pay any attention to us. Often my daughter and I give them bits of produce from the garden. They pick it up with their powerful jaws and scurry off to their colonies.
Occasionally we have some bumblebee’s that buzz around us angrily if we get too close to “their territory.” We respectfully back off. The majority of the crops that are produced would not exist without our bumblebees. Did you know that ants, ladybugs, and praying mantis plays an important role also? It’ true they prey on the insects that can harm produce. They have a place in the garden, and I have taught my daughter to respect them all.
I always point them out to my daughter and we marvel how beautiful they are. Working in the garden is an excellent to bond with my daughter, connect with nature, and I also get an excellent. I’m fortunate that my daughter has a first hand look about the miracle of gardening.
Although I’ve never made pear turn overs I’ll be making some later this week. I haven’t use my breadmaker in a long time but I will be pulling out for this. Now that I think of it, nah! When I have time I love working with dough and I know my daughter would love to help also.
