Creating Niche Websites That I’m Passionate About
I needed time to relax. During that time away it gave me a chance to think about ways I can enhance the websites. I’ve added two more websites within the past three days. They deal with issues I’m passionate about “health and fitness.” The last website was created this morning around 12:30.
I was visiting one of Paula Neal Mooney’s website earlier this week. She had written about creating niche websites I must admit that I passed by that posting very quickly. I thought, “I’m not doing that!”
A day later I created another health related website focused exclusively on weight loss. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while. In a past job, I created weekly newsletters and would send it out to my co-workers surprisingly other people approached or emailed me they wanted to be included on my mailing list.
I focused on keeping it simple and many of my co-workers actually stuck the tips and lost weight. They also did the simple exercises I recommended. I was stunned.
I’m happy I have an outlet to write about this. It’s another thing I’m passionate about. These days my tips are given to relatives, friends, and people who approach me in the gym wanting to know what they can do to get where I’m at physically.

Making Wise Choices
I’ve made educated guesses about my niche website and so far they have been on the money. It helps that I’m passionate about the niche websites that I’ve created so I never run out of anything to say. Healing Yourself Naturally now receives more visitors per day than Vegan Momma. I started that website in May. I write about what I love, alternative healing. I don’t write as much as I do here.
I’m back in college receiving my Masters, and eventually my PhD in traditional naturopathy so it made sense that I create a website about it. Also, with my business I create and sell holistic/aromatherapy beauty products.

Organic Traffic: If You Create It They Will Come (Hopefully)
This morning a few hours after I created my last website I received my first ping. Remember this website is only a few hours old. I hadn’t even publicized it! I think this website will eventually pass Healing Yourself Naturally, and although I knew it would quickly get noticed I wasn’t expecting it to happen so soon. My two newest websites are receiving organic traffic, and they are less than four days old.

Quick Indexing
My weight loss website was indexed within three days. I’ll be curious to see the length of time it takes my newest baby to be indexed.
With all the websites, I’ve created the main goal has been to serve as an online resource for whatever niche that I’m writing about. I’ll only write about what I know. Thankfully, when it comes too my niche, I always have something to write about.

I’m Doing It My Way
Alright almost three years ago it wouldn’t have been *my way* but I’ve learned a lot about websites and blogging since that time. I’m making sure my new websites reflect what I’ve learned. I’m really happy with what I’m seeing with my websites.
In Other News….
Is Vegan Momma Out There?
I admit part of my silence on Vegan Momma has to do with my personal websites. I’m working on them late in the evening after my daughter is sleeping. I usually spent that time commenting on other blogs but my days, mostly, have been spent with her. I made a promise to her that this would be our week to hang out exclusively and that was a promise that I intended to keep.
Everything Old Is New Again
My last WordPress Theme is back I found one that had a sidebar on each side. I’m liking it. I’ll tweak a little to change the colors around to my liking, but generally I’m cool with it. I liked CopyBlogger but my traffic took a hit with that theme I liked the “red” but it was too red for me.
Question: How Many Websites Do You Have?

I have three but I can’t find time to update the other two. I’m such a bad blogger..

Pelf,
It can be hard initially I was having a hard time maintaining them however since I put them on a schedule everything is working out well!

Wow, Opal this site looks good, and I’m joining your other site about weight loss.
I think about you when I’m chowing down on a hot fudge ice cream sundae from McDonalds.
I ask myself: “Would the Vega Momma eat this?”
Lately I’ve been going off track with the eating a little bit and I know it’s time to get back on track.
So your insight is just what I need.
Congrats to the success already of your new sites.
And as you know, I have 7 sites I blog on, and I just bought a new domain name!
I’ll start working on that one soon…
Thanks for all the link love and honesty,
Paula

Paula,
It’s funny that I thought that because the very next day I was creating another website, lol.
A few months ago I was thinking about creating a website that I wasn’t interested in but the more I thought about it I realized that would not be a good idea. I definitely agree with you that it is important to write what you are passionate about. It does show in your writing.
One of the things that I always liked about your website is that you aren’t the typical “pro blogging” website if you were I would not read you daily. Your approach is unique and for me that makes all the difference.

What kind of schedule? Can you enlighten me please?

Girl, you is crazy!
It’s awesome that you have so much stuff goin’ on and congrats on the new websites. I truly don’t know how you do it, I mean - I have two and I just neglect and disrespect the other one. But hey, I’m wishing you continued success and I’ll talk to you soon!

I only have one active blog site. But if something in my area of general interest should pop up and turn into another one on me, I wouldn’t be surprised. ;)

Opal, I didn’t know about your weight loss site. I’m passionate about losing my “after the baby weight” and getting back in to shape.
I’ve just added it to my feed. Now I can get those updates as well as the other ones that I’m already getting.
Thanks for the great info.!

I have too many. I have my Exit78 blog, my photo blog, two civil war blogs, an outdoors blog (which I am retiring), a civil war articles web site, an outdoors web site and several old ones with information that needs to be moved. My focus is on content that I am interested in.
Today we are in the town I was born in seeing stuff and visiting people. We just got back from my 86 year old great-aunt’s place. She lives on a ranch out in the Nebraska sand hills, 6 miles from the nearest public road. It’s a good thing that I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I don’t remember her road ever being this bad.
I’ll have pictures up of the drive out there in a couple of days.

I am trying to create some niche websites as well but for now I am quite preoccupied with other stuff and I can hardly update my blog regularly. And I am pretty sorry for not being able to visit here lately

Will you post a link to your weight loss site? I didn’t miss it did I?
on August 18th, 2007 at 2:10 am
I read Paula too and saw that her husband (boy they are a photogenic couple) and her have now started a fantasy football site. I would like to add a few more sites, but am taking it kind of slow. I have two, my husband has two (one I contribute a lot of full length articles too), and I am launching a third this weekend. Not only that but I am consulting with businesses to start blogs and have been writing the opening posts for a customer this week. It can be a bit much at times… -Michelle

pelf,
I’ll post my schedule in a few days but mainly there are certain days that I devote to a specific blog. I also am a fan of advanced posting. I do that on Vegan Momma since I usually post here daily.
Bush,
Yeah I’ve heard that before. I think this website will be my general website and the others are focused on a specific niche.
teeni,
Now you know you have to keep me in the loop if you decide to add another blog.
Lisa C,
You’re welcome! That blog is not even a week old so it’s my newbie.
Mike,
Wow you do have a lot
I do the same with my blogs.
Is your great aunt’s road made of dirt? A few of ,y relatives in South Caroline have dirt roads.
chase,
I would love to see what you create I enjoy your website. There is no need to apologize I know you have been busy. I’m just getting back into visiting my bloggers.
Michelle,
You definitely have your hands full! I’m finally getting back into visiting my blogging pals. I’ll be sure to stop by your virtual home.

Hey, girl:
Thanxs for the feedback on Groovy Vegetarian, like i said in my post i’m really wanting to turn that blog into a niche blog and focus or narrow down the general category of vegetarianism. (I’m angling towards vegetarian and vegan shoes) Sounds like something fun for me and my readers/visitors. Plus with my daily work over at eco blog Keetsa, i know a ton of green, eco, and animal friendly footwear. I think it will be a good change.
I have a few other blog properties as well, all part of my “Groovy” blog network. I blog weekly about my hometown Chicago at Groovy Chicago and my most recent blog (three weeks old) is on blog ideas and blogging as a business called Groovy Entrepreneur. That pretty much keeps me real busy, i need to organize my time better and maybe like you “create a schedule”, so that i can really turn my blogging into a viable business enterprise.
Congrats to you on your blogs, you are doing really well, from what i can see. Good job!
Missy.
P.S. my comments end up soooo long, sorry.

Though I haven’t been swinging by as much it is fun to see your network grow. Good job!

I love how you incorporated song titles and lyrics in the post!!! :) Well…for me…personally one. Then I work on 2 websites currently as well as 2 blogs…one for a non-profit.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for all of your sites!!!
on August 20th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Missy,
Hey thanks for the long comment. I love them. I tend to leave them myself.
I’m eager to see how far I go with blogging as an enterprise the pocket money I’ve made is turning into more than pocket money. I’m happy about that.
I cannot wait to see how your site develops in many ways veganism is open season for monetization.
There aren’t too many vegan websites out there that focus on a niche. With one of my newer websites I’m already on the first page at #7 and I see how I can get past at least two that are ahead of me very easily. I just need to do some work. I will. The great thing is I’m not selling myself out to make money. I’m doing what I love writing about live, veganism, alternative healing, volunteering, and of course the environment.
Beth,
I always enjoy your visits an to be honest I did not think it would grow at this soon. I was seeing this way down the road.
Harmonia,
You know me I love songs I used to do this a lot more, but I’ll definitely be getting back using song titles within my post.
