Aromatherapy at Home
My mother would use various herbs in herbal tinctures and soaps that she would make. It really shouldn’t surprise my family or close friends that the remedies that I reach for for daily use or to address a variety of ailments are holistic.
In my early twenties I was introduced to essential oils and it opened up another chapter for healing myself naturally. I haven’t looked back. I incorporate aromatherapy into my daily life it’s evident in the homemade soaps I prepare, to the bath & shower gels I’ve made, the diffusers that are scattered throughout my house, and you can also detect it in the perfumes and body sprays that I make.
I purchase my essential oils in bulk. I’m a business owner and I create and sell natural skin care products. I truly enjoy working with essential oils. The ingredients that I use in my product line are “as natural as possible” since I’m not there watching every single step that goes into the ingredients I make I’m not going to call it “all natural” however I avoid using chemicals that you will find in many of your regular products.
I’m currently working on a new product line. I’ll be selling essential oils also a few of my customers have asked me for a few years to add this to my line of products.

What Are Essential Oils
Essential Oils are used a lot more these days and I imagine there are some that still don’t know what they are. Essential oils are the essences or liquids that have been removed from flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark, roots, shrubs, trees through distillation.
Effective Healers
Science is now starting to realize the effectiveness that a variety of essential oils has on the body. Essential oils applied directly to the skin. They can be applied to a finger nail or to nail to treat fungus that is underneath. I’ve suggested this method to a family member and it was extremely effective.
It cleared up their fungus. Essential oils are extremely concentrated portions of the plants vital essences. You do not need a lot to be effective. I’ve written about Remarkable Powers Of Essential Oils at Healing Yourself Naturally.
Frequently Adulterated
As essential oils becomes increasingly popular so does the confusion as to what is an essential oil. You have a lot of fragrance oils that are marketed today, some are marketed as essential oils.
These are not the same although some of them might containing they true plant essences many aren’t and have been made to “mimic” the essential oils scent of course since these are chemicals it means they don’t have the same healing power as the essential oil.
For example true rose essential oil costs on average over $100 per teaspoon but I’ve seen 2-4 ounce bottles priced for under $20. Smelling the fragrance oil confirms that these aren’t true oils. True rose essential oil costs so much because it takes lot of roses to make an ounce of essential oil.

Oh, Opal - you bring back so many memories for me. My grandmother used to use natural remedies too and she also lived to a ripe old age (94). I’m fortunate to have been able to enjoy her for so long. I remember she used to sometimes smell of vinegar and mint that she would wrap her leg in when it was sore - I’m pretty sure there really was no natural medicinal remedy in doing that it was an old folk remedy she brought with her from the “old country” and made her feel better. (We also made sure she got the good care of more traditional doctors as well, LOL). Sorry - this isn’t totally related because it wasn’t a real remedy but you jogged my memory.

Hi Teeni,
Your grandmom was onto something they both have been used with success for sores and bruises. Vinegar has been used for arthritis, fibromylagia, muscle ache, joint pain, etc.
There has been research done on both of them at times the old ways are fairly good. :-)

Wow - so my grandmother was really on to something? That is cool. I always thought she was pretty smart (in addition to being as cute as a button).

I would like to see you write additional information on essential oils and how you use them. What type of essential oils would you use for what purpose?

I do that at Healing Yourself Naturally, but I will write more information over here also. I’ve been thinking about writing on topics that I write at my other websites here as well.
