Google Adsense: Is Section Targeting Important?

The only problem almost every ad was about Veganism although this is fabulous and most likely what you want if you have a niche blog I don’t always talk about Veganism so I wanted to see more ads.

What is Section targeting?
When I target a section of my text it allows me to emphasize or downplay certain areas of my website. This was just what I wanted. I wanted more of a variety than what I was seeing displayed. In order to take advantage of this fabulous feature I needed to add special tags to my code. I placed the tags at the beginning and the end of the sections that I wanted to emphasize or ignore.

What’s the code?
I’m including that you need to emphasize or downplay the content below.
If you’re worried about section targeting violating Google Adsense Terms of Service don’t be they talk about it Adsense Targeting and supply the code on their website.
Code used to emphasize content
*I place this in my singlepost.php file
<!– google_ad_section_start –>
Important content for AdSense
<!– google_ad_section_end –>
and here is what it looks like on my singlepost.php file
<div class=”entry”>
<!– google_ad_section_start –>
<?php the_content(’<p>Read the rest of this entry »</p>’); ?>
<!– google_ad_section_end –>

Has it been effective for Vegan Momma?
Is section targeting effective? On my website I would say that it has been very effective. Shortly after I implemented the changes on my website my clicks picked up. It has helped me make more money with Google Adsense. I’ve added it to all my websites.

For the amount of traffic you are getting, you should be making A LOT MORE from Google Adsense than you are. One thing I recommend is having the ads in every post at the top of the post AND at the bottom. That ads should be embedded in your articles. Not off to the right. As people read your articles, you want them to run into the ads. Also the links on your Google ads should be the same color as your regular links. You are not trying to trick people but in a sense you want people to think the links are related to your content. Also, use Google Search instead of your blog’s search. With Google Search your search results will be embedded with Google Ads. Kontera is pretty good, so as soon as you get the code install it. Install Chikita ads at the bottom of all your posts. Also try text-link-ads.com to sell links on your site and links for each post. If you want some rich media banners at top of your blog, try ValueClick.com. A few dollars from these different advertisers will add up. Keep trying different things. You should be able to pulls a few hundred dollars per month off this blog if you execute correctly. Monetize your site to it’s full extent! Don’t be embarrassed about it. Good luck and keep up the great work.

chase,
I’d be curious to see how it goes.
Patrick,
You would think, eh?
In regards to the blending I noticed that yesterday and then forgot to make the change. I was busy making adding Google Adsense to another website and doing the blending so I forgot about doing it here. It’s been corrected.
In regards to placing it in every post. I can’t since occasionally I write reviews. The odd thing is I have tried to float my ads so it appears on the right hand side but for some reason it will show on the left hand side.
I imagine it’s something simple that I’m overlooking. I know this blog will get a few $100 per month after I get over the few obstacles. :-)
Thanks for the tips! It’s definitely appreciated In many ways I’m still a newbie, lol.

Section Targeting was offered by Google so that webmasters could display ads more targeted to their niche. I have read that it has also worked well for people so I’m not surprised it’s worked for you, too.
