High Temperatures and Low Rankings

Whew! It’s a hot one today. Too hot to be spending time in the kitchen that’s for sure. Aiyana and I just came back in the house. She was hanging out in her swimming pool for a few hours while I was beside her chatting and getting work completed.
Since I’m in the mood for something light I’m thinking of making a nice green salad later today. The produce is really doing well in my garden. I’ve been picking snap beans, greens, lettuce, garlic, green onions, blueberries, mulberries, cucumbers, zucchini etc., for a few weeks.
I love this time of year I don’t have to buy too much produce since my garden is doing so well. The quality and taste of freshly picked vegetables cannot be beat.
My Alexa Ranking has dropped again. My Alexa Ranking is now 107,270. It was 113,301 last week. It went down by 6,031 points. You can read about my progress here. Who knows I might meet my goal of getting down below 100k before the month is over as I mentioned in my last post about my ranking it doesn’t carry the significance that it did when I initially discovered it at the beginning of May at the time my ranking was almost 2 million.
Initially, I wanted a lower ranking so I could receive better paid post opportunities but if you’ve been reading my blog for the past few weeks you might have noticed that the paid reviews I’m doing have dissipated. There are times when I see some that I’m interested in, but they’re full and other times although the opportunities are open I just don’t feel like writing the review, even if I’m interested in it.
My new websites Alexa has been dropping, and I haven’t done too much to promote that. It was almost 3 million when I opened its virtual doors last week. It’s now ranking at 1.2 million. I’m still working on adding solid content into the website and that is going to take some time.
Sure you can receive a small amount of traffic by participating in various blog promotions but if the content isn’t there why on earth will the people return? According to Google Analytics, my new users have been increasing quickly, and the good news they’re coming back. I really like that.
No, it’s not going to be easy, yes it will take a lot of work, and yes I have to market myself. I have the patience to do it.

I need to stop coming here on an empty stomach. You get my drooling with your talk on food.
It’s very hot and muggy up here in New Brunswick Canada, I can’t stand it when the humidity spikes like this. Got to go take a shower here in a bit.
Are you doing anything special to get your Alexa ranking down, because I too want in on them Sweet $180 opportunities for a PR5 blog with a 9,999 or less Alexa Ranking.

LOL see see vegan food is good.
Content is definitely important I’m not talking about copied and pasted content now, and again it’s cool but putting that stuff every freaking day is a major turn off. I’m talking nicely written posts. You have original content your website that’s why I keep coming back a lot. You also don’t talk down to people. I’ve seen that on blogs, and I thought that was pretty stupid. Who wants to visit a blog when the person doesn’t know how to interact with others? Pfft!
I haven’t promoted myself, a lot, with The Raw & The Cooked but I’m below 500k I’ve received more trackbacks there in a shorter length of time than any of my other blogs. I’m talking about something that is appealing too many, nutrition. I’m also passionate about it.
I’m a little over 722k with The Raw Review. I have posted five articles on The Raw Review, and my ranking is down under 800k when I started about a month ago it wasn’t even ranking and when it was ranking I believe it was over 3 million.
My visitors increase daily, but I don’t want them to be one time visitors I want them to keep coming back there is a lot of activity in my archives. You know what gets hit the most? Health, Nutrition, and recipes. I have a lot of articles that talk specifically about that, and it’s all original content. Many are extremely long.
I want to keep my visitors coming back, educate them on my niche (alternative health) going through my archives by writing good quality articles. The average length of time spent on my website is about 6 minutes lots of my files are looked through daily not only by the bots but real people. I know. I check.
On The Raw Review, I’m going to go buck wild and talk about alternative health a lot. I know a lot about the subject. I read articles and studied alternative healing daily, and I practice what I preach. If I tell someone to try something, I’m not pulling the information out of the air I’ve used it myself or have recommended it to others.
People today are way to dependent on drugs. We need to stop and think about what we are putting into our bodies.
Gah, you had me getting on my soapbox time to climb off it!
You should think about having tutorials about some of your photoshop images. I’ve been impressed with some of the things you do, and I always wonder…”How did he do that ?”

Alexa ratings are crazy. I created my first MFA site in August last year when I was getting about 30 visitors a day. At that time my Alexa ranking was 500,000.
Now that site is getting about 160 visitors a day and my Alexa ranking 2,757,363.
Very strange.
In terms of being paid to blog, if you haven’t done so already, I really like the site doshdosh.com which has details of all the paid blogging sites. They suggest creating a few blogs with the sole purpose of making money using these methods.

Harmonia,
Congrats!
April Kerr,
I agree it is crazy I know Alexa is driven by people who actually use the tool bar. They make it only for Internet Explorer; however, even if they did make it for FireFox I wouldn’t use it. It’s definitely inconsistent, and it puzzles me why some advertisers place so much emphasis on it.
Yes I’ve learned about Dosh Dosh early on. I like the website. I also like CopyBlogger and ProBlogger. Darren’s my favorite. I like Darren Rowse’s style. He’s down to earth and I constantly find myself going back to his website. He also looks a lot like a former coworker, a very nice fellow, so every time I see Darren’s picture I think of Ron.
I see myself turning my websites into a business. I don’t want to post to generate income which is another reason I slowed down when it came to writing reviews.
Originally, I created The Raw & The Cooked and The Raw Review with that in mind, making money by paid posts however that changed after about a two weeks of doing paid posts. I saw the potential to make more money without writing paid posts.
I’m looking into affiliate marketing, click ads and other sources for generating revenue. I blog because I truly enjoy writing but I don’t want to write to get paid. If one day I stopped blog writing I don’t want my income to stop. I want it to keep generating revenue. It can be done, and I will put all the efforts into turning that into a reality.
