WordPress and Advance Posting: How To Schedule Your Posts

Posted on June 17th, 2007 in Technology, Web Maintenance, WordPress by Vegan Momma

Word Press logoA few of my friends joke about the time I spend blogging. “Opal you must blog all day long!” I don’t. Did you know that WordPress actually lets you schedule when you want your post to appear? it’s true! It’s a great way to continue blogging even when you are away, or don’t want to be bothered.

How is it done? I’m glad you asked.

How To Schedule WordPress Posts

1. Write your Post

Word Press ~ Write Post

2. On the right hand sidebar look for Post TimeStamp.

WordPress: Post Timestamp

3. If you see a plus sign like the image shown above click on the plus sign so you’ll see this…

WordPress: Post Timestamp

4. Place a check mark next to Edit timestamp and enter the new time you want your post published.
* Make sure the checked box stays checked.

WordPress: Post Timestamp

5. Click on Publish

WordPress: Publish

You’re Done! Do you want to see your scheduled post?

1. Look at the tabs below your Blog’s name

WordPress: Dashboard button

2. Click on Dashboard

WordPress: Dashboard button

3. You’re now at the main page. Do you see Scheduled entries? Look closely!

Word Press ~ Control Panel

4. Aha there it is!

WordPress: Scheduled Entries

Now that was easy, right? I usually write the bulk of my posts in the early morning hours (between 12:00 and 7:00) I schedule them to be released at various times throughout the day. There are a few days when I don’t post anything. Thanks to advanced posting even when I’m not here my post will appear. The trick is I schedule my posts in advance!

Did I say how much I love WordPress? There are other blogging packages that allow this but I’ve seen few that give me the freedom that WordPress allows when you host it on your own server.

* Oh by the way this is an advanced post.

I use that a lot also. It’s a great feature for when you have a lot to post, but don’t want them to all go on at once. I’ll use it to space the time between them so each post has a bit of front page real estate.

    Great post.

Well I do use that as well when I am uber busy or I have a new idea for a post so I usually write a draft with a set date of publishing it.

I will be using that soon! When I was switching the general timing on my blog - after you told me - I noticed my first post of the day stayed up first for 7 hours…I posted others and they “appeared” to be posted prior to the FIRST one I actually posted…haha…it worked out tho…I will be using that more in the near future…individually, that is. haha. thanks for the tips. I thought that what it was for but never really played with it. THANKS!

I do it frequently because I have to take advantage of the small breaks in my time 20/80!

Great posts and super relevant content.

I knew Wordpress had this feature but I didn’t realize that it was this simple to implement. Thanks for the tip, I’ll be using this a lot in the future.
