So I was over at Google…
A few moments ago I cruised on over to Google and to my surprise I found that this blog, Vegan Momma, is showing up on the first page for the keyword raw vegan. I think I used to be on page five with that term.
I’ve been reading a few blogs, and some seem to think that Google has (or is) changing their algorithm perhaps that explains the page jump? I’m not sure. I still need to do some more research. It seems that in some many ways Google always changes how they rank things, right?
I’ll be working on Vegan Momma’s website, not the blog, but the main sites which haven’t received much love. It’s pretty embarrassing. I have a few ideas that I want to implement I’ll be curious to see whether the changes I later make show up on the next Google update or in later updates.
In Other News…
I spent most of yesterday afternoon working on Aiyana’s room. I finally have it the way I like it. When she was an infant, I used to use that as a storage room (we co-slept) everything was neatly packed into crates, but yesterday I went through the crates I found many things that I will donate to those who really need it.
I blogged about food at The Raw & The Cooked the dish I made was simple I made stir fried vegetables and rice today I’ll be making a raw vegan pasta yes you can make your veggies look like pasta noodles if you have the right tool. The pasta is actually healthier for you than your regular pasta. Think about it. What’s the main ingredient in regular pasta? It’s some type of flour right?
How is that healthier than vegetables?
I’ll be heading to the gym early today. No, I didn’t get a chance to play Halo 3 last evening no surprise there!

1st page ranking. That’s great! :) I have missed out on your recipes. I thought I added your other page to my reader. It is there now. If you don’t play Halo3 here soon I am going to take it away from you and play it myself! ;)
This past weekend I talked my husband into playing UT 2004 online. What we do is go into the same game, a death match game, and fight it out. lol. He has his computer in the living room and mine is in the studio. It feels really odd to get shot by your own husband. ;) For some reason it doesn’t feel too bad when I shoot him. Heh heh ( I am kidding of course). If you ever get a hold of that game we should play sometime. :)
Have a good day!

Congrats on the google ranking…yes, they constantly change stuff…keeping it fresh I guess! I think with the way you update and maintain the sites you have you will be fine! ;)
I really need some tips on veggie pastas!!! Can’t wait to see it!

Beth,
Of course, it’s different when you are laying the smack down! I used to love Unreal Tournament. I still have my copy. I wonder if it will work with my HP Pavillion? Surely, they have an updated to make it compatible with the newer OS? The one I have is at least five years old. Hmm, I hope I still have the key. How does playing online work? Do you have to get a membership or is that included with the online version?
Harmonia,
Thanks! It makes sense to keep changing otherwise, people would be able to figure out exactly how to game Google I still have a lot to improve to be where I want to be with Google but I’m working on it and of course I’ll blog about it.
I have to pick up the veggies, from my local farmer, today. I think I’ll purchase squash & beets. I already have carrots.
I should be doing more blog visits today. I was fairly busy yesterday so didn’t get to do much that.

Umm. Strange thing. It’s #9 when I look.
Clear your cookies and try it again.
Maybe it’s caching your preference in search or something. I don’t know.. I’m just guessing.
But seriously though, you’re listed 9th when I do the search.

Macbros,
Oh no not #1 on the list I’m showing on the first page not the #1 on the first page. I used to show up on page #5 or something like that. I’m going to try to get The Raw & The Cooked to appear on the first page now that would be sweet!

Thanks, Opal! I have been a postin’ fool again today. Recipes first then music, then yoga. I have to get some other work done but will be back later with more original posts!
Say hello to your angel for me! ;)

Unreal Tournament was one of my favorite games. When they came out with unreal championship I really believe they screwed it up. As for Google rankings, the alorithmn is constantly changing. Also, they don’t really do the “google dance” anymore. Now, its more of a rolling update. The results you get on a given day can be mediated by universal search and whether or not you are currently logged in to a google product (such as adsense, gmail, blogger, etc) and can also depend on which data center you hit. Sometimes you can clear your cookies, refresh the page, and hit a different data center and get slightly different serps. By and large, though, the pages that surface for a given keyword or phrase tend to those that:
1. have the most inbound links
with
2. the right anchor text
Pagerank is still a factor, though not nearly as strong a factor as it used to be. Also, sheer numbers of inbound links aren’t always enough. They can help you in a less competitive niche, but in a very competitive niche, it is important to have links from different IPs entirely.
Google states that there are over 100 separate criteria used for ranking and for many SEO types it is getting harder and harder to game the system. But what it really boils down to this: write good content, get good links.

Actually, for the term “vegan momma”, you really should rank near the top of the page, assuming that you many inbounds with this anchor text. It could be that some of the inbounds you had simply had to “age in”

Harmonia,
I’ll stop by later this evening! I cannot wait to see what you’ve added.
Tim,
You two have me excited about playing Unreal Tournament. I’m going to see if I can play it on my HP later today. Too bad it’s not Mac compatible.
With the keyword “vegan momma,” I’m Page one and I rank #1. There was another Vegan Momma but I moved ahead of her sometime last year. The same thing happened with the key word “raw vegan momma” I passed the another blogger a few months after using that term. I’m page one #1 ranking. With the term “vegan” I’m on page #17. I’m not too surprised about that there’s a lot of competition out there but of course I can improve my numbers if I want to.
Interesting info about the sites you mentioned affecting ranking. I noticed this with “Blogger” I’ve seen many blogs that have an Alexa Rank of 15. I imagine that Alexa is reading “Blogger’s” ranking 7 applying it to the blogs? It would explain why some advertisers will not accept free blogs.
To be honest I never paid too much attention to anchor text, until recently that is on my project list.
I’ve received a lot of incoming links for this website. It was a great way to meet new bloggers. I’ve received 23 incoming links for The Raw & The Cooked 15 of them came from websites that I’ve never heard of before they just stumbled on my site and bookmarked or pinged me. I thought that was cool.
I agree with you content is important. I keep reading repeatedly with the websites I visit. It makes perfect sense if someone keeps tossing up crap just for the sake of adding an entry to their website. I’m not going to be visiting them to often and yes, in the past, I’ve been guilty of doing that.
Thanks for the information it’s truly appreciated.

Opal, I am not sure which version you have but the version I have the online playing is part of the package. I don’t know how it all works really as far as folks playing different versions. I do know that the online servers site for 2003 and 2004 are different though my brother seemed to suggest that he and I could play though with different version. I have no idea!
on June 2nd, 2007 at 6:53 am
Beth Ellen,
LOL my version is older than 2003. I think I bought that in 2000? When I do purchase the online version I’ll get 2004. I’ll definitely let you know when I buy it.

Congrats!
Is not a very competitive keyword or phrase but is a start! Get as many inbound links with the keyword you want in anchor and you will see the results
;)

Make sure you’re signed out of any Google Accounts you may have because that will cause your site to rank higher as well as any other sites that you’ve visited before in your search/browser history. Yep it’s true! Sign out of your account and you can see different results.

Andrew,
Thanks and yes I know Vegan Momma isn’t competitive. :-)
Dropal Design,
That’s interesting to know. I just signed up for a google account yesterday. :D I’ll keep that in mind for future reference. Thank you and thanks for stopping by.
