Today Aiyana & I went to the Strasburg Railroad Station. It’s America’s oldest shortline station. We truly enjoyed our time spent looking at the trains. Aiyana didn’t mind that there wasn’t a Thomas the Train on the site. There is one located in Lancaster, PA which wasn’t too far away but my daughter didn’t care. She was having a blast.
Say hello to our conductor for the train ride. He was extremely informative and talked a lot about the area as we rolled past.

The fireman
This train is over 100 years old and is powered by coal. I couldn’t help but think of the fireman who was faithfully dumping the coal to keep this train moving. I told my daughter, “I bet it gets pretty hot back there!” Hmm, perhaps he gets used to it? I wish I had had a chance to chat with the fireman but unfortunately we didn’t have the time.
The farmers in that area of Pennsylvania (near Strasburg) have on average about 150 acres of land. Wherever you turned you saw vast expanses of open countryside. Ahh, Paradise! The trip lasted 45 minutes but we left with numerous memories and we’ll definitely return. Actually we’ll be returning in June since Thomas the Train will be paying a visit to the Strasburg Station. In August we’ll be back for a weekend. I’m taking Aiyana to Dutch Wonderland.

That first photo is just beautiful with all the color - I like the second one, too… what a neat thing to do/see.

tnchick,
Thanks! It was very colorful. The photo doesn’t do it justice.
I felt so sorry for the fireman. I had to include his picture even though it’s not too colorful. ;) It was hot today. I guess he is used to it but I still felt bad.

Great shots! You are sweet to include the fireman…most people wouldn’t have even thought twice about him being hot like that.
Btw, I’ve included your name on the Alexa Redirect Train post over at my blog. I noticed that you do PPP and I thought that maybe you might be working on your Alexa ranking also….though I can see your’s is not too shabby at all! Mine completely stinks big time! lol!!

We tried to see Thomas when we were in England. Well, we did see him at a station in Peterborough, but the station was closed on the day we went. Jamie looked at Thomas and said to us “Thomas need a bath.” LOL It appeared as though they hadn’t washed him down since the last run. He was pretty well covered in black soot. *sigh* Now the kids think they are too old for Thomas.

Jenny-up the hill,
It made sense to include him after all he was a major force in keeping the train in motion. ;)
I’ll be stopping by. You know at the beginning of this month my Alexa ranking was a little over 1.8 million.
Beth,
I’ve always loved trains. I don’t know which one of us enjoyed it more.
john,
Hmm I never thought of it that way but now that I think of it it does remind me of the Polar Express. I think I would need to change the train to a dark gray.
margare,
Thanks! I love taking pictures. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be popping by your place soon.
Dragonlady,
LOL now that’s funny.
Nope Aiyana is still loving Thomas. She does seem to have outgrown Dora (for the most part.)
