A few of my jewelry tools

Ring Mandrel
I really enjoy the entire jewelry making process. I make simple to extremely elaborate wearable art. Eventually I’ll create a page, or perhaps a website, to showcase my work. I usually purchase my equipment online. I love the mandrel and have found that it comes in handy. It’s grooved and has the ring sizes clearly marked. It’s a definitely keeper.

Rock Tumbler
I also love the rock tumbler. It might not be a lot to look at but it’s takes a beating and creates gorgeous polished stones. There’s a lot of rocks where I live. I’ve used ordinary and pretty unusual stones in my creations. I’m always amazed with the process. I put in a rough stone and after the tumbling it is takes on an entirely different look.
My daughter is excited. I told her that we would be going rock hunting this coming Sunday. She’s excited because I always let her choose a few rocks. Occasionally she make jewelery and on other occasions she decorates them. A few of the large rocks serve as bookends in our house.

Rock tumblers are cool. I wouldn’t mind having one of those. I need to send you a few Arizona rocks. I boxed some up when I moved. :) Do you look for certain shapes with an idea in mind or work out the idea from the shape?

Hi Beth!
Sometimes I look for a certain type but I usually work out my idea from what I snag. I found that to be a lot easier. :D

Oh, I understand totally. Do you ever break the rocks? Sorry, curious here. lol

Yep I’ve broken the rocks. I usually like the results.

Wow, you make your own jewellery? I’d never heard of a rock tumbler before, and I would never have thought of using polished stones in jewellery pieces - that’s very creative! :) Sounds like a lovely activity to let a child help out with. I learn something new every day from blogs!

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for stopping by. It seemed like a great idea so I thought I would try it out. I loved the results and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Beth,
I’ll definitely be taking you up on that of course I would want to do something to return the gesture.

Hi Opal! I’ve never heard of this kind of jewelry as well. It’s very original and I think the results are great! I’ve posted an article on my site about lamp working (http://mariaflorea.blogspot.com/2007/07/lampwork-beads-handcrafted-glass-beads.html) as well if you’re interested. I found those beads amazing!
Cheers and keep up the good work!

Very nice with a rock tumbler. I usually create nice candle light creations in vase with those stones.
