Drug Rehab

Do you know what’s tough? Watching someone you love battling a drug addiction. Years ago I had a friend that was addicted to drugs. It took years before she was drug free. It surprised us all because well she didn’t “look like the type” that would do that. Have you ever wondered what sort of type does? Her desire to use drugs was stronger than anything else. She lost a lot of friends in the process.

I can remember the promises made not only to me, her best friend, but also to family members. It was a tough time for her and the pain, frustration, anger, and compassion were felt by all that truly loved her.

Despite everything she put us though I still had a strong desire to reach out and help my friend. I knew that it would be challenge to overcome her drug addiction. When she hit rock bottom she woke up and finally checked herself into a drug rehab center. Many of the staff at that facility knew what she was going through since they had been there themselves.

It’s been years since this happened. She was still a teenager at the time but I’m so happy she is drug/addiction free. I have my friend back.

Question: Have you known anyone that suffered from addiction. Were they able to overcome their addictions?

I look up to those who have kicked the habit and have stayed clean! I’m proud of your friend! I had a cousin in the same boat. When he got to rock bottom there was a family and friend intervention and the rehab began shortly after. Seeing what he went there (I was still in elementary school) I promised myself and others that I would never do drugs. He was hooked from the time he was a mid teen until he was in his 20’s. He’s been drug and alcohol free for about 15 years…he’s now 38.

    Thanks so am I.
It’s tough to overcome. There were two kids in my junior class whose parents sent them to drug rehab for alcohol addiction. That was an inpatient facility. They were gone for a little over a month.
