Nice capture. The colors are very saturated. Do you have settings on your camera where you can choose things like “vivid”, “natural”? It really is a matter of taste. Some like things more overly saturated and some more natural. It is interesting how the rose really vibrates but your lens really picked up the detail nicely. I hope I am not commenting too much. :)
This was a “natural” shot. For the past several months I’ve been shooting all my pictures in RAW. I don’t know if you can do extra things in that mode you might be able to.
If I want to do any editing I do that in Aperture. I didn’t do anything with this picture but I do like oversaturated and understaturated photos. It depends on what I’m trying to convey I guess.
I really like shooting in RAW from what I’ve been reading it’s the closest you’ll get to a negative with a DSLR. The processing is minimal.
This rose is called a Double Beauty. I have quite the collection of roses.
It’s frustrating because I haven’t been able to capture exactly what I want to see with this rose bush. I have a little while longer to work with it. :-)
I don’t have RAW capabilities right now but it is def. a plus. That will be my next camera! I want to ask what it is you want to see but that would be impossible to express I am sure! I know what you mean though as far as my personal experience in judging the images I capture. There is a kind of aesthetic pleasure in you when you nail it. I call it a kind of quaking of the spirit. However, I think everyone is in a different places as far as aesthetic sensibilities. Sorry for waxing philosophical… :) And yes, keep practicing! When I started I was sorely disappointed with most of my photos. I should mention though that there are objective features to aesthetics too. One crucial aspect is composition. Images can be nice just as info (that’s a pretty flower) but you want to go beyond information to beauty in composition as well. It is like beauty layered upon beauty (that is a beautiful image). ?
Your Photos are surreal, and I really like them. I like taking mine in the natural/Raw, but when I get into a certain ethos then I’ll Macro myself to death until I’m saturated…Love your stuff!
Beth Ellen,
LOL I’m not sure how to explain it. I’m getting back into photography. I enjoy taking pictures.
Bobby,
Thanks! I enjoy your blog also. I never grow tired of looking at photos. I think I need to create a photo blog tab and add all the blogs I love.
I love surreal photos and subconsciously it’s what I try to achieve when I’m taking pictures.
:) Well, you just said you love surreal photos and that is what you are trying to achieve. That answers the question! Can you link me to an example of surreal photos you like?

I love natural photographs as well but recently I’ve been fascinated with blurring those lines. I’m still reading about it and playing around.
