Yeah, Boyee!

Did I just type that? ;-)

I should be resting right now since I’ll be hanging out with my mentee’s in a few hours. However I cannot get back to sleep. I slept for about thirty minutes before I was awakened by a call from one of my mentee’s mothers. Good news! It looks like she will be able to attend.

I followed up with our executive director to see if D could bring along her little sister. She usually has to babysit and I knew she most likely would not be able to attend if her sis wasn’t invited. Yeah all my mentee’s can make it! Can you tell I’m excited? Whee!!! Aiyana is sleeping. I told her she needed to take a nap if she was hanging out with the girls and I later today. It worked like a charm she’s still sleeping.

Uh oh moment
I cannot find my sleeping bag so we’ll be heading out earlier to pick up vegan snacks and my sleeping bag. we’re supposed to be at the school by 6:30. We’ll be leaving a little after 4:00. I think that will give me plenty of time to purchase snacks, sleeping bags, and round up the girls. I’m picking them up at their house.

I’m off to pack a few changes of clothing for my daughter and myself. Once she awakens I’m going to feed her and then we’ll start getting ready to leave. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity. It’s going to be wonderful bonding with my mentee’s. I think of them as extended family.

In the beginning when I told my girls how much I cared about them. They didn’t believe me. I couldn’t blame them? Many will overlook them because they write them off as “bad” or “loud” well guess what? They didn’t get that way overnight.

Last evening I was talking to a friend on the phone. He said, “After a certain age a child knows right from wrong!” I said, “Really, suppose those around them are doing “wrong” how in the world are they going to know how to do “right”? I see that with a few of my mentee’s. True, it’s challenging to get over that obstacle but it’s definitely worth it.

I’ll blog more about some of the challenges I’ve faced dealing with my mentee’s later. As for now it’s time to get ready. My daughter has just awakened and she is already chattering about the overnight camp. :-)

    K,
    It’s that obvious, eh?
Yep I truly enjoy hanging with my little sisters. I think I mentioned that some of them refer to me as their “second mom”. We have a lot of fun together but I’m tough when I need to be.
