Rockin my locs

Posted on April 24th, 2007 in Coily/Nappy/Natural Hair Care, Personal by Vegan Momma

I usually get my loc’s maintenance (usually means palmrolling of loc’s) every two weeks. I rinse my hair daily. It’s been over a month since I’ve been to Natural Images Hair Studio. I just don’t have the time. I know how to maintain my own loc’s so, for now, that is what I’m going to have to do. That is, until my schedule slows down. It’s great to have me time and I definitely consider having that done by someone else me time. :-) My loc’s are growing fast. I can now pull them back into a tiny ponytail. Summer will be here before I know it. It will be time to pull out my gele’s (pronounced gay lay, African headwrap) very soon. During the warmer months you will usually find me wearing gele’s. :-)

Test Freaks ~ A new online review website

This is a sponsored review.

Test Freaks

Over the past year I purchased several mid - high priced items. It took me I weeks, months, and in a few instances years before I finally made a decision. It can be challenging finding the right fit for my particular needs. That’s why reviews are extremely important.

When I was younger (teenager) I remember purchasing a few items on sight without really checking them out. What a bad mistake! The one that really sticks out in my mind was an atrocious pink disc camera. I’m not sure what possessed me to buy it now. That was a big mistake since the quality was poor. I had to replace that product very quickly.

There is a new website, still in beta, called TestFreaks (http://www.testfreaks.com) Since it’s beta there is a lot that needs to be done, for example, if you click on cell phone you will get reviews on numerous cell phones. However if you are looking for the search function to check out a particular phone you won’t find it. There needs to be one! I’ll be heading over to their beta forum and see if this suggestions has already been made. I’m hope it has but I’m going to check anyway. :-)

Mentoring Update ~ Ganesh was a hit!

Ganesh

Ganesh sleeping after visiting my mentees

What can I say my lovable Ganesh won the hearts of my mentee’s. Can you believe that they were squabbling over who got to hold him? He was the perfect ferret to bring along. He didn’t complain at all! In fact, I think he loved all the extra attention. I wrote a three page report about ferrets. The girls were shocked that I wrote it. I told them I know a lot about these animals. I even had a chance to talk to them about Westernized ferrets vs. European ferrets. The ferrets fed a westernized diet face more diseases than their European cousins. Many believe it’s related to what they are fed. The Europeans mainly feed a whole prey diet and Westerners rely on kibble. I feed my ferrets raw whole prey.

Green Salad ~04/24/07

Romaine lettuce

Romaine Lettuce

I’ve never been much of a salad eater, or I should say, I used to be that way. Don’t get me wrong I liked everything that went into a salad, especially the greens, I just never liked eating a big ole bowl of it. It was a while before I started making my own salads. don’t ask me why? However when at home my salad fixins always found there ways into wraps, stir frys, and lightly steamed dishes. I think part of the reason I avoided eating them was because the salads I had eaten just weren’t that good. They were a bland, wilted, tasteless poor excuse for a salad. I didn’t want any parts of them. They had no appeal to me until I started making them. I prepared my salads as fresh as possible. If I wanted dressing I made them myself. Mmm, mmm, delicious!

Working outside

Posted on April 24th, 2007 in Personal by Vegan Momma

One of the many perks of working from home and having a wireless connection is that I can work outside. I’m doing this as I write this post. Aiyana and I are a few 100 feet away from the house (seriously) and we are sitting on top of a hill that overlooks the woods. It’s a beautiful view. Aiyana is beside me using Zizzy aka HP Pavillion dv6000t and of course I’m on my beloved MacBookPro.

It’s a beautiful day in Maryland. Tuesday’s are my short workdays. I have mentoring every Tuesday and am gone from 2:00 - 6:00 at times it takes about an hour to drive downtown.
