The importance of investing & mentoring update
This past Tuesday, as I posted here, K spoke to my mentee’s (I volunteer for six fifth grade girls) about life in Kenya, Canada, and the USA, cultural difference/similarities, and her business. The mentee’s asked us (they included myself since I’m a small business owner) very good questions about entrepreneurship. We did our best to answer them. One in particular has a fairly negative view about owning you’re own business. She assumed that if you were a business owner your family did without because naturally you didn’t have enough to cover everything. We both assured her that there was no way we would be working for ourselves if we could not support our family. They definitely don’t do without. She wasn’t convinced. I imagine she picked her views from an adult most likely someone who wasn’t successful in their endeavors. One of the main reasons a business will fail is due to lack of adequate planning. I’ve wanted to own my own business since I was a child but it took a while to get where I am today.
