Turkey Buzzards

Turkey Vulture

It almost looks as if you could reach out and touch them right? Wrong? This tree is several stories off the ground. Ok so the turkey vultures weren’t in a row! They were perched in a few of our backyard trees. I counted 24 total. It’s a shame that I did not get the photos I was looking for.

Black Cat

Inky the Cat

I took this picture a little while ago. This cat has been around the house for several months. Isn’t he gorgeous? I think he’s a solid black cat.  I’ve had a chance to check him out fairly closely, even though, most times he keeps a respectable distance. I call him Inky.  He’s wild but he’s a well fed wild cat. There is plenty of wildlife to keep his little motor running and I suspect neighbors feed him also.

Smorty ~ Get Paid For Blogging

Posted on April 18th, 2007 in Personal by Vegan Momma

This is a sponsored review.

Did you know you can actually get paid for blogging? How? Blog advertising! Over the past few months I’ve heard favorable reviews, and posts, about Smorty. Advertisers that are looking for honest reviews submit their requirements to Smorty. I like that! Occasionally I blog about products that I like or am planning to try. Thanks to Smorty I can actually get paid for blogging about a variety of services. Sweet! :-)

How does it work?
When the blogger logs into Smorty they are presented with a variety of advertisements to write about. Your blog must be three months old and you do need a Paypal account. If you don’t have one get one. Why? This is how Smorty pays you. Smorty pays you weekly.

If you’re interested in blogging for money check out Smorty. I actually like this services. I can control what advertisements I choose to feature on my site.

Liviu Librescu ~ Hero

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13 NIV)

Liviu Librescu? Huh? Who’s that? I didn’t find out about Liviu Librescu from the local news. I found out about him y reading Wake Up Black America and Cobb. I was pretty impressed by what I read so I did some additional research on him.  So who was he? Liviu Librescu just happened to be a professor at Virginia Tech. He gave his life so his students could live. His family plans to bury him in Israel. I’m hoping VT recognizes his act of bravery.

Cobb said…

The heroic story in this, if you haven’t heard, is the sacrifice of one of the professors as he blocked the door and placed his body between the shooter and his students. His name was Liviu Librescu. He too was born elsewhere than here. He was in America for a reason, to teach the science and mathematics. This is one of the men we lost to that maniac.

Mentoring ~ Does she look like she’s from Africa?

K visiting with my mentees

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time you know I’m a mentor. I meet with my mentee’s every Tuesday. This past Tuesday a friend came to speak to the girls. She’s Kenyan, speaks five languages, a business owner, and a fabulous mom of two beautiful children. I purposely avoid showing my mentee’s on my blog. Although I have permission, from their parents, to take pictures of them for our organization my personal blog isn’t part of that so if I include their pictures you will see their backs.

Before she arrived one of my mentee’s asked me, “Does she look African?” I smiled
