Smoothie of the day

Posted on April 5th, 2007 in Juicing/Smoothie Recipes by Vegan Momma

I made a simple smoothie this morning. What’s in it?

Strawberries, carrots, & Bok Choy.

Strawberry/Carrot Smoothie
2 cups strawberries
2 carrots
3 large bok choy leaves
4 cups water
*You can always substitute fruit juice for the water or add a natural sweetener if you don’t think it will be sweet enough.

Why Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican

I came across this article a few moments ago. I thought I would post it here…

Why Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican

By Frances Rice

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860’s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950’s and 1960’s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960’s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools.<more>

Thanks to Any Given Tuesday (another Marylander by the way) for telling me about this song. Yep definitely has that old school vibe. I’m loving it. I already downloaded it on iTunes. If you love music you definitely want to check out AGT’s website. He covers a variety of music. I’ve found new & old favorites on his website. :-)

Anyway I love this song. It makes me think of the many times I would go to Record & Tape Traders (on North Charles Street) at times I would spend hours flipping through the old records hoping to come across some treasure. I love my music.

Oak Tree

Oak Trees

Here’s one of the many mighty oak trees in my yard. I’ve always loved looking at tree branches. The way they bend & twist. Truly beautiful! I took this picture about thirty minutes ago.
