 Nat Turner ~ Slave Rebellion

I share the same date of birth as Nat Turner. I’ve always been fascianted by him and have read as much as possible about him over the past several years. It’s easy to understand why Nat Turner was filled with such rage as a slave he definitely got a raw deal.  I don’t think it justifies his actions but I can understand it. Slaves, for the most part, “free time” started after dark. They were expected to care for their families, tend to their crops (if given any land) by their masters and expected to be up and fully functioning at dawn. I have numerous books about slaves some written by slaves and others by slave masters. They are very old books many dating back to the 1800’s.

I thought this was a cool website it shows who was born on each day of the year. I’ve known for a while I share the same date of birth as Gandhi.

A, my mentor partner, and I met yesterday afternoon. I’m really looking forward to today. We will be mentoring six girls. We split up the parents names and called them last evening. I reminded the parents about tomorrows event and checked to see if their daughters (along with them) would be attending. Great news! The majority of the parents will be in attendance tomorrow. The ones that cannot attend have other obligations. I’m looking forward to meeing the girls and their parents!

Guess what? We will be providing snacks for the girls. I’m providing the snacks tomorrow. I’ll be sure to provide Veganlicious treats.
