Article - What is a “normal” diet?

Posted on June 12th, 2006 in Personal by Vegan Momma

I thought this was an excellent article. I agree with much of what he has to say but I would take it one step further instead of saying, The only people truly eating a “normal” diet today are the vegans. I would have added “whole food”. There are many “foods” in the vegetarain/vegan camp (processed foods) that aren’t “normal”.

It always amazes me how many people think my diet is “extreme” but don’t even question what is in their food. Over the life of my blog I have talked about many of these points. I’m saddened and amused that “normal” for many is really “abnormal”.

Hanging out with Aiyana

I’m leaving work early today. I’m here until 12:00.
Aiyana and I spent most of our time outside this past Saturday. I noticed Saturday evening that she was slightly hot. Yesterday she complained of a sore throat. I brewed up a large pot of ginger root tea. I used about 4” of ginger root. I let it steep for about 2 hours. I poured her a large cup, letting it cool and added 1 tbsp of agave nectar to the tea. She loved it! It soothed her soar throat and knocked down her temperature. She sipped on this throughout the day as we snuggled under a warm blanket. We drew pictures, watched TV, She identified letters in the alphabet and hunted for numbers in our numbers game. We read books to each other and hung out inside the house. She loved it. She asked for “her tea” this morning and I gave her the last cup. I’ll need to make more when I arrive home today but first I need to stop by the store and pick up more ginger root. I use that daily. I also need apple cider vinegar.

This picture did not turn out well. I made this around 6:00 last evening. I used leftover guacomole. The portobello was huge! I topped with freshly chopped yellow onion, tomato, and parsley. Aiayana and I enjoyed munching on this while watching The Goodnight Show.

Aiyana’s daily food intake is a high amount of raw foods. Her cooked meals consist of a few lightly steamed meals throughout the week.

Aiyana does not watch too much television but Make Way for Noddy is one of her favorites PBS Sprout shows.
