Herbs

Posted on May 3rd, 2006 in Personal by Vegan Momma

I’ve always had a love affair with herbs. I have numerous books on the subjetcs, taken classes, attended lectures, and babbled on and on with anyone that was willing to listen to me talk about natures pfabulous gifts. It comes as no surprise to my loved ones that I have wanted to push further. I’ll be increasing my knowledge. I’m currently looking at Tai Sophia School. Did you know that the Tai Sophia is the only school in the US that is approved to give Master’s degrees in Herbal Medicine?

Thanks to my mother and grandmother (father’s mother) and my mother. I was introduced to herbs at an early age. I have fond memories of grandmother talking about various herbs she used such as sassafras, dandelion, goat’s rue, and mullein. I remember eagerly helping my mother dig for sassafras root near the woods on our property as a child. I loved sassafras tea. Mmm, I can still taste that sassafras tea.

ER’ Puts Darfur Tragedy in Spotlight

‘ER’ Puts Darfur Tragedy in Spotlight
Tuesday May 2 4:58 PM ET

More often than not, television has looked away from the complex, searing reality of Darfur.

The three network evening newscasts devoted less than a combined 10 minutes so far this year to the political and ethnic conflict that has killed at least 180,000 and driven 2 million more from their homes in the western Sudan province since 2003.

On Thursday, an entertainment show will quadruple the broadcast news Darfur allotment.

NBC’s “ER” puts Dr. Gregory Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) in the thick of the desperate situation with former colleague Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle). The result is urgent drama aimed at jolting viewers into recognition of the immense suffering taking place. more

Aren’t these the same three newscasts that are quick to attack others for not being sensitive to other nationalities? It seems to me they need to practice what they preach, pfft!

That being said I applaud ER for stepping up to the plate and brining this to national attention, great job! I’m not a tv watcher but I will tape this.

Black Beans & Asparagus

Vegan dish

Black Bean, Asparagus, Tomato, Yellow Onion, Ginger, & Garlic

This was a fabulous dish. I had been soaking one pound of black beans for two days. Yesterday morning I added the bens a pot with 4 additional cups of cooking water and cooked. I really should invest in a pressure cooker. It would definitely cut down my cooking time. When the beans were ready I put all but 1 cup into an 8 quart pyrex glass dish. These beans were to be frozen. The remaining beans I set aside to be added to my skillet.
