The China Study

I finally ordered my copy of The China Study. It arrived last week from Amazon. I found it to be an excellent source of information. I read through the first four chapters last evening and quickly skimmed over the rest. I was impressed with the amount of research that was done and I would recommend people to read this book. It’s a great nutritional resource and it might explain some of the ailments that you just cannot shake. What, you mean a high amount of vegetables and fruits is actually good for me? Isn’t this what The American Cancer Center, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, The American Heart Association, The American Institute for Cancer Research, to name a few, have said for years.

Front load or no load?

I met with the company’s representative about their retirement. The organization I work for is non-profit so we use the 403(b). The plan is with American Funds. Has anyone heard of them? It’ a front load, so the manager gets paid a commission of your inital investment. You don’t with a no-load fund. The major idea behind a load fund is that you will make up what you paid in commissions with the solid returns that the managers will provide. However, the majority of the studies I have seen show that front loads don’t outperform no-loads. The manager was very nice. I told her I reveiw everything thoroughly before I make up my mind. Although I have not reached a decision I’m leaning towards investing with a no load company, such as T. Rowe Price. I already have investments there. Whatever my decision I’m opting to put 20% of my pretax dollars into retirement.
